Nick White of Tilly and the Wall

As fitness crazes become evermore bizarre (and also awesome—trapeze yoga? Hula hooping? Yes!!), we’re secretly hoping that tap dancing catches on. If it does the credit for all those hipsters tap-tap-tapping away will probably belong to Tilly and the Wall. Percussion? Yah, they’ve got it, in the form of some seriously happy feet. In addition to being a great gimmick—corny and folksy and seriously hip—the tapping works with their brand of pop. Which you can check out tonight at GAMH. Before you go off reading Nick White of Tilly and the Wall’s answers to the SFist interview we’ll leave you with what we remember from our tap class in the East Bay circa 1983: heel, toe, heel toe, STOMP!

In the meantime, read on for Nick's insights on LA and make sure to check out the show tonight-- it'll be a good one with Loquat and Love Like Fire opening.

How long have you lived in LA?
I’ve lived in Los Angeles for the parts of the last 2 1/2 years I haven't been on tour or recording. I found a beautiful place in Silverlake with 4 very rad roommates. I like how you can make whatever you want of this city, and I had always had a nice time here on tour. thought it would be nice to write about it as a fairly recent transplant

Right now, faildogs.com (I know)

Favorite local business
The Oinkster in eagle rock. Homemade veggie patty with homemade fries and mustard and gruyere (well maybe the cheese isn’t homemade)?!

Frank and Hank's bar. It has cheap drinks and a pool table.

LA has the BEST
Plants vie ever seen

You've never lived in LA until
You've gotten lost and found something magical in the hills

You can tell someone is a local in LA IF
They'll venture out of the house at rush hour because they know all the secret streets

LA would be soooo much better if only
They would try a little harder with the subway system

Best Burrito
Cactus on Vine

Best Restaurant
You can't argue with the macaroons at the little next door

Best movie scene filmed in or about LA
Just saw the house that was Tara in gone with the wind, pretty amazing

Favorite artist to come out of LA
Elliott Hundley

Favorite author to come out of LA
I really love the way Joan Didion writes about LA.

Place you always tell visitors to check out
all the museums

You have two hours and $15 bucks to kill in LA, what are you going to do?
Go to cactus for a burrito and walk to the Goodwill on Vine

I listed this computer then took down the listing even though I had already got emails. I wasn't ready

Tilly and the Wall assumes toddler persona + age-inappropriate pretentiousness = "adorable intellectual," when it actually approximates "moronic talking-baby movie." (SA)
