Early this morning at 8:24 a.m., an "adult female" was struck a 60-foot 71-Haight-Noriega bus on Market and Sixth Streets. She was transported to SF General Hospital, where she later died. According to San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's press release:

"This is a tragedy, and we at SFMTA extend our sincere condolences to her family for their loss," said Samuel Lau, Deputy Chief Operating Officer for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, which operates Muni. Per normal procedure, the Operator driving the bus at the time of the collision will undergo drug testing and be placed on administrative leave.

SFPD are currently investigating the tragic, early morning accident at Sixth and Market streets, an intersection famous for being infamous.

So they don't know who died, or are they just not saying?

6th & Market? Assuming the victim was a resident of the 'hood, it may be hard to find the lady's next of kin, so the inevitable lawsuitilarity can commence.

Wow. Natty Tatty Ford couldn't be assed to issue an apology himself?

turns out i was the only person with a camera there, and yes, it was a female, when i saw her inside the ambulance, and the operator's middle-aged, just sitting there, thinking "what have i done?"...

RIP, sad, sad indeedy...

@zippy_monster: it's cuz natty ford's busy with business ;)

Pedestrians need to LOOK both ways before they cross. Bus Drivers need to be more alert and courteous, but I notice people just keep coming out in droves against red lights and it needs to be stopped now! Value your lives people and never expect anyone to stop for you, even on a green. Market street is not Safe for humans.

With the number of pedestrians I see off the curbs at red lights, looking like they're going to steal a base, plus the number of buses I see that speed up on yellows and run reds, I'm surprised people aren't run over and killed with more frequency.

I recently drove a car for the first time in about three years, and I have to agree wtih some of the others. It blew me away the number of pedestrians who just don't watch where the f**k they're going.

Of course, I have been known to step out in front of a car or two when I have something on my mind, so I'm not complaining. I just couldn't believe how often it happens.

Everyone, driver and pedestrian needs to be alert.

was she homeless? good riddance if so!

i almost killed a crack whore on mission and 6th once when she walked right in front of me from the front of a muni bus parked in the right lane. i had a green light and was about to go through the intersection.

i had to lock up my brakes will everything i had. she would have been all over my front hood an window if not for my years of mis-spent youth playing video games and my killer reaction time.

too bad.

wish i could have just driven over here.

Homeless or not, LOOK WHERE YOU'RE GOING!!!

I wonder if there is CCTV footage of the accident. I would be very interested to know who had the light.
