People Really Liked Dennis Richmond, Did You?

We love this tribute, which was found by Flickr user tingley at 24th Street at Osage Alley. It even lit up at night. Sniff.
So, did you watch his final broadcast? Check out his final sign-off here, and try not to weep like a teething baby.

I totes cried when he signed off last night. My whole family did.
Just watched the clips (thank my lack of god for youtube, eh?) and teared up a bit. Who else do you know who's had her/his job for 40 years? Best of luck to a Bay Area institution. Tip your caddy, Dennis!
I was unexpectedly moved. Best part was him leaning back with a cigarette in his pinky-ringed hand and a plastic tumbler of champagne at some late 70s office party
What a life; enjoy your retirement Mr. Richmond.
I watched, and I actually got all teary at the end. I have been watching that hunk of a man my entire life! I'll seriously miss him. :(
To be replaced by the pants-on-fire delivery style of Frank Somerville?
The horror! The horror! The horror! (It's Mr Somerville's favorite word!)
Thank you so much for the link to that. I'm tearing up. No news anchor in Boston could hold a candle. No one else could lend gravitas to the words "freak dancing" like he could.
Dennis Richmond is the man.
What the f**k POS is Microsoft Silverlight? Sorry dennis couldn't watch your sign off because some retard decided to use some buggy MSFT craplication to host your video.
Mr. Richmond will be sorely missed. Sincerely irreplaceable.
Happy retirement, Dennis!
Dennis Richmond was pure class in an industry that is now sorely lacking it. His work was impressive. He will be greatly missed.
He was the full measure of an anchor.
And when the last is said of him let the record show:
He did, in fact, Stay Classy™.

I had the same reaction to silverlight - how many effing vid apps and formats do we need?
It might be Julie Hayner that has turned me off to KTVU, but it just isn't the same. Don't think Dennis was happy towards the end and always looked ashen gray and just not into it anymore. It's geritol time!
what's wrong with julie hayner? i like her.
I caught the life-n-times of Dennis Richmond montage at the end of last night's broadcast and totally dug seeing DR with his 70s-solid black power natural afro getting bigger & bigger in a series of photos. Totally righteous.
DR was not one to pander & try to tug your crusty heartstrings. I don't think I ever saw him crack a smile and it was kinda sad to see him lookin weepy last night. (Hanky nose blow.) I hope he's not retiring because he is ill (re: cablecar's post.)
Cheers

cablecarsam:
I would venture a guess that the reason Dennis was looking "ashen gray and just not into it anymore", as you say, was because he was quietly battling prostate cancer the last few months.

Dennis Richmond = Old Man Strength
Quote from the article above:
"Need more evidence of old guy butt-kicking potential? Then I have just four words for you: KTVU anchor Dennis Richmond."
I'm going to miss him. He's been anchoring the news ever since I can remember.
Simply The Best. Dennis Richmond was a class act. Congratulations Dennis.
