Bizarre Bazaar

Curiosity and a unique line-up of craftspeople, performers, and artists drew folks to Mission Bazaar, the Armory's first public event in 30 years.

For those who haven't heard, the San Francisco Armory, a 200,000-square-foot reproduction of a Moorish Castle right in the heart of the mission, was recently bought by kink.com.

Unfortunately, the event did not reveal much of the mystery behind the stone walls. Instead, it was good wholesome fun as attendees were guided into the the drill court, a huge room covering nearly an acre. The space had a few stages and lots of vendor booths selling hipster essentials like eclectic belt buckles and unusual fashion hacks.

In addition to the stuff for sale, there were a few small art installations. In the center of the hall, there were a number of tricked out bicycles and Ross Holzman set up an interactive area to create more of his "Banners for Peace."

The competition with Bay to Breakers may have hampered the festivities a little since it didn't sound like there was a lot of traffic on Sunday. However, the 'Shanti Shanti' spirit of the Shamanic Cheerleaders was in full force as you can see below.

Owner Peter Acworth, would like to open the Armory to the community for more events like this one. Let's hope the success of the Bazaar can help smooth over some of the tension he's had in the past. Its a great space that should be enjoyed.
