Tomorrow's War Protest = Public Transit Headache

norma_rae.jpg

Tomorrow begins the annual March and Rally to End the War Now frenzy. (Has it been five years since we invaded and occupied Iraq? Where does the time go.) And for all of you attending the rally, and for all you neo-cons who won't, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency has advised us to advise you of the following:

Several anti-war activities are expected to take place on Wednesday. They will be held primarily in the downtown and Civic Center areas. Muni customers wishing to go downtown are encouraged to take the Metro subway lines, if possible. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and to avoid the congested areas.

That is to say, choose the underground trains over the bus lines that drain into downtown SF. Like you normally would. Oh, and there might be some re-routing as well.

Muni street supervisors will monitor for re-routes and the San Francisco Police Department will monitor traffic for any necessary closures.

The March and Rally to End the War Now starts at 5 p.m. at Civic Center, Polk and Grove Streets, Wednesday, March 19. Remember to have fun at tomorrow's big bash. Do say "hi" to Frank Chu for us if we can't make it.

Wednesday is the 19th. So... it's happening tomorrow, not today, right? According to Wikipedia that anniversary is March 20th. Oh the confusion.

my error. it's happening tomorrow the 19.

Do say "hi" to Frank Chu for us if we can't make it.

No love for Plant Trees?

Hey, Sally Field looks like Eve Batey in that photo!

Great, let's ADD to the clusterfuck of MUNI during commuting hours. Good thing the Supreme Court is going to strike down bans on hand guns. I think my morning commute will become MUCH easier.

This just makes me want to go to SF and take pictures.

Wow is it five years since I was arrested for the crime of buying a sandwich at lunchtime? Is it five years since I told a cop to go the fuck back to Pleasanton or wherever the fuck they bussed him in from? Is it five years since I had to watch a bunch of hippies make a peace sign out of balloney on the floor of our communal cell on one of the piers? Five years? Where the fuck is my check from class-action suit?

Is it five years since your server started posting stuff twice, or not at all?

Yeah these hippie style protests have been REALLY effective. And let's not forget the piling on of assorted causes, and the "activists for the cameras" like Code Pink.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. It's been 5 years. Still gotta war. Still got GW. And yet they somehow think another smelly protest is going to work?

Change tactics, people, or continue to lose. Deal with it.

I really want to know, who the hell can take off in the middle of an afternoon on a Wednesday to protest? Seriously, do they not have jobs? And if not, how do they support themselves?

To paraphrase a disgustingly right wing comedian who used to be mildly amusing at times but is now just a hack: If I had a hammer, I'd hammer out danger all over the world. But I've got rent to pay, pal.

Eh, if the protestors really wanted things to change they'd become lobbyists. Anything else is just another case of serial activism.

Free Mumia!

And of course blocking public transit helps increase oil consumptions. Dumbasses.

The world can't wait (TM) for the media to stop covering these yahoos.

5pm is the middle of the afternoon? If only I could sleep in so late.

>> It's been 5 years. Still gotta war. Still got GW.

You mean, I've been throwing my feces at The Man for FIVE YEARS, all for NOTHING??

Well, I'm always punctual. So I assume if the protest starts at 5, they should get there by 4:45, meaning they'd have to leave house/work by 4 or so.

Yeah, I wish I slept so late, too.
