Is Your Little Blessing a Tagger?

God, sometimes we love Orange County. It's such a parody of itself at times, which we admire. Especially when it comes to brilliance like the following found over at Laughing Squid. You see, the city of Santa Ana (oy) wants to help parents determine, via the graphic above, whether or not their child is a rat bastard tagger. The city of Santa Ana's site explains their accusatory and unfair image, along with the final word as to what is and is not art, thusly:
Tagging is not an art form or about expressing oneself. It is vandalism and the destruction of private and public property. Tagging is any unauthorized marking, etching, scratching, drawing, painting or defacing of any surface of public, private, real or personal property.Tagging causes blight in our community resulting in a genuine threat to the quality of life, incalculable economic losses to businesses, and can lead to the general deterioration of the area in which you live or work. The eradication of graffiti is a huge drain on the City’s resources in both cost and manpower. In most cases, the difference between graffiti being art or a crime is PERMISSION!
Totally. You just can't argue with that kind of bold, all-caps logic.
Next up: a graphic from the Newport Beach city government helping parents figure out if little Dylan or Taylor is a racist, varsity football-playing date rapist. Really, that would be even more helpful.

i like how the stencil says "stencil".
well played, OC.
Magritte tagged a wall once, "This is not a stencil"
"Ceci n'est pas une immeuble abandonnement"
Looks about right. I see that faceless kid tagging up the muni bus every day. BTW, an indecipherable scribble -- which the muni taggers seem to be in love with -- is certainly not art. And that's especially true when it's done on the side of my car. JAX$, I WILL GET YOU!!!
Look, Santa Ana isn't like Newport Beach or Irvine or whatever. It's an overwhelmingly Hispanic city, and its residents tend to be middle-class or poor. It's the kind of place that gets tagged up a lot, and doesn't have the kind of city services to quickly remove graffiti.

I find that most taggers I encounter in SF are a mix of middle to upper-middle class kids. Kids up here don't really wear hoodies, they mostly wear North Face jackets/backpacks and only wear bandannas when doing large pieces. Most of these kids brandish themselves on flickr or on a variety of forums.
Except for the stencil and marker, that outfit describes pretty much every single kid (male AND female) at my son's SF high school (seriously, they ALL look alike!) It's freaking hoodie heaven.
I don't know, this just looks like someone on their way to a scientology protest to me.
where's the graphic that shows you how to tell if your kid is a pretentious hipster wannabe who only does 'graffiti' for art galleries? oh wait, just take a stroll around valencia and 16th.

Vandalism with replacement is a 10 billion dollar price tag, so there is a serious side to this!

Forget tagging, I just want to know where I can get my hands on some of that "OBEY" stuff you were advertising a while back.
lol peoples "understanding" of graffiti on these sort of forums is hilarious...."indecipherable scribble" if you spent half the time you do griping about "those damn kids" and actually tried to understand the leter structure, connections and style that is the san francisco bus flow then maybe youd see the beauty in graffiti....
