Huh. The San Francisco Police Department has put the kibosh on tomorrow's Dolores Park free cash giveaway care of Cash Tomato. Check it:
This Saturday 23rd February at 10am, we had planned to hide hundreds of tomatoes with cash attached in Dolores park, a tomato/cash treasure hunt if you will. Yesterday, 21st February we received an email from SFPD telling us that we are unable to do this, that by giving away money within the park we would be breaking the law. Incredible but true. After a conversation with Sgt McDowell and the parks department we discovered it is illegal to hide/give out money in the park, and that to do so we would require a permit, an events permit, even though we do not consider this an event, merely a giving away of fruit and money. We
We were informed in no uncertain terms that were we to proceed, we would be subject to arrest, however, the police department could not / would not give us the penal code citing the crime we would be committing.
However, apparently and somewhat contradictorily it is NOT illegal to give money away on the streets, so this event will go ahead as planned, now with money being given away around the perimeter of the park, but not, for legal reasons within the park limits.
Well, we for one feel safer already.
UPDATE: Cash will still be given away "just OUTSIDE the park and not in it." Clever.

safer? how could you feel safer? in twelve years the pythons are going to be here and eat us (and all the alligators) alive!
We will still be there, we are still giving away the cash, just OUTSIDE the park and not in it! Tomatoes are ready!
tomato people: it's gonna be raining cats and frogs tomorrow. maybe it's a blessing; won't get so darn muddy.
Rain, we won't melt! Will be there regardless, what are you, scared of a little water?!
how much money you giving away tomato lady?
What's the point of this blatantly commercial excercise? Get a permit, whiners.
Or else why don;t you build some LED signboards with cartoon characters giving the finger, than hang wires and stuff of them to make them look like bombs, then stash them all over the city.
Of you could spray point your logo all over sidewalks!
Anyway, when you get busted, make snide smart ass remarks about the police to the press. That's an essential element to any guerilla marketing plan!
Ha! Are you are you looking for a job in PR, we might be able to use you, like your style!
We will be giving away a large sum of cash.
Yet another Jason Buzi scam. Anyone who owns a house in Palo Alto knows this slickster. Do your homework...save yourself a trip in the rain.
Look what happened in NYC on "leap day" for Cash Tomato's 'giveaway'....
Surely nothing like this melee would ever happen here . . .
