This Week in Le Rock: Feb 18 - 24

sia.jpgJoin us tonight at the Fillmore, where Sia (one of our favorites) will be headlining. We saw her at the end of last year and the show was definitely fantastic; we highly recommend checking out tonight's show. Her latest album, Some People Have Real Problems, is stellar and has garnered critical success jumping to #26 on the Billboard charts, selling more than 20,000 copies and finishing ahead of fellow press darling Kate Nash (all in the first week of sales). The show starts with Har Mar Superstar at 8pm (doors at 7pm). See you there!

Thursday, popscene brings another great act to San Francisco, The Sessions. Hailing from Vancouver, these guys remind us of the Killers, the Bravery, and These Electric Lives. Friday, BAGeL RADIO presents San Francisco's own indie-rock band, Love is Chemicals. Not only a BAGeL RADIO party, it's also Love is Chemicals' CD release party. You can't go wrong with that combination.

The concert that we 100% recommend: Punch Brothers featuring Chris Thile at The Independent. Chris Thile is a genius. Absolute genius. We were so upset that Nickel Creek called it quits and ended their farewell tour with Fiona Apple. (What a terrible idea!) It looks like he has redeemed himself, though. There will be two shows, one at 7pm and the other at 10pm. Punch Brother's new CD comes out February 26th.

fyi, and i know that the show is way past, but the punch brothers concert sucked. i went to their show in nashville and walked out because it sucked so bad. it is a little disappointing that just because the hype that surrounds chris and "nickel creek" that everyone is so enthralled by anything he does. if any other group of fellas (that are as talented as the punch brothers) got together and played the same tunes for the same crowd, they'd get boo'd off the stage. it seems that everyone wants to say that they saw, or new of, or heard of, etc. of the punch brothers first. most of the folks i talked to at the show did not enjoy it, though they would say otherwise just to look cool in front of their friends. c'est la vie i guess. that's the music business.
