SFist Watches: Your Locals On Reality TV

ep_8_chris_model.jpgPreviously on "Project Runway," Chris March made a really nice prom dress, but didn't win. But he didn't lose either, which is the most important thing.

Heidi greeted the designers on the runway, and brought out the models who were all donning insane hairstyles. The challenge was to create a look inspired by their model's hair. Two models were out. No idea who they were. Don't care.

Tim met them in the workroom and told the designers they should create avant garde looks that didn't have to be that wearable or even practical. He then told them they'd have to work in pairs. Chris was paired with Christian, Rami with Sweet P., Ricky with Kit, and Victorya with Jillian. They then chose which model's hair to work with. Chris and Christian chose a model with a huge bun full of braids, and Christian was team leader. Obviously, with Chris's experience in costume design, their team had the upper hand from the beginning.

At the fabric store Chris and Christian bought about 50 yards of cream colored organza for a dress that would have hundreds of layered pieces, and a huge, off kilter neck piece. Christian revealed that if he were a drag queen, his name would be "Ferosh," as in "Ferocious." We'd prefer "Feroshi." The two of them knew what they wanted to do, and they seemed to get it done with very little, if any, strife.

Team Rami and Sweet P., however, did not get along, mainly because Rami is a huge fucking douchebag. He took his role as team leader way too seriously, and just would not lay off Sweet P. one bit, practically breathing down her neck the entire time. And he made her cry. Which, admittedly, isn't hard to do, (she's running a close second behind Ricky when it comes to the waterworks). He also totally disregarded her suggestion to add a bustle--and therefore some actual avant garde-ness--to their dress. Dick.

ep_8_team_fierce.jpgThe next day Tim told them they'd have to come up with another look! This one would be a ready-to-wear look inspired by their avant garde design. Chris and Christian took it in stride. Rami took the news as the perfect opportunity to berate Sweet P. some more. How very productive of him! The designers also learned the winning team would be featured in a Tresemme ad in Elle magazine. Tim assessed the teams, and loved Chris and Christian's avant garde look; their ready-to-wear look, not so much.

Runway! Rami and Sweet P.'s avant garde look was another of his damned drapped dresses, this time paired with pants. There was nothing avant garde about it. Sweet P.'s everyday dress was, on the other hand, very nice. Chris and Christian's avant garde look was suitably insane, while the ready-to-wear look was a pretty simple skirt and ruffled blouse combo. Kit and Ricky's avant garde look was a kind of weird, Little House on the Prairie on acid look, but it just wasn't crazy enough. Ricky's day dress was OK; a little on the short side. Victorya and Jillian's military-esque coat was awesome, but Jillian's ready-to-wear turned out quite nice, especially considering how quickly it seems she got it made. You can see all the designs here.

The judges, including guest judge Alberta Ferretti, liked team Christan and team Jillian the best. They totally called out Rami and his constant need to present nothing but draped dresses, and they obviously liked Sweet P.'s day dress more than his design. Ha! HA HA! They thought Kit's avant garde look was a cheap "Scarlet O'Hara"-influenced design, and didn't look well-made. They also didn't like Ricky's dress.

The winners, unsurprisingly, were Christian and Chris. The loser was...Kit. Which is bullshit. While what she designed wasn't that great, at least it was a little avant garde, and not a retread of a design presented over and over on the runway, RAMI.

Chris has a had a pretty strong surge of late, no?

It's a complete and utter travesty that Ricky has remained in the competition thus far.

The next challenge is to create an entirely wearable outfit for Bluefly out of the parts from Ricky's hats. See him finally be reduced to tears at the loss of his precious headgear.
