SFist Tonight

  • Michael Pollan: Come hear this foodie sensation talk about his latest book, In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto, in which he suggests that you should not "eat anything that your great-great grandmother would not recognize as food." (Impossible. Also, yes, Michael Leaverton, we DO need to know the exercise logs of the fowl we plan on eating.) Catch him tonight in conversation with restaurant critic, Hayes Street Grill chef/co-owner, and local food celeb Patricia Unterman.

Pollan is ready to serve at 8 p.m. at the Herbst Theatre; 401 Van Ness; $17-19. SOLD OUT

  • Chickens, Ducks, and Donuts: This could very well be the best name for a club night in the history of nightlife. Ever. Save for one other item, it involves almost everything we hold so close to our heart! DJ Amadeus (from Planet Big) spins.

Starts tonight at 9 p.m. at the Stud; free.

  • Lust for Life (1956): No, not the overplayed Iggy Pop song. Vincente Minnelli's drama about the life of the famously talented and famously crazy, ear-slicing Dutch impressionist, played here by the formidable Kirk Douglas.

Screens tonight at 7 p.m. at the Castro Theatre; $6-9.
