Tina Turner's Abuser/Rapist/Svengali Dies at 76
Well, holy hell. Ike Turner died today.
The rock et roll pioneer and hardcore curmudgeon died today in San Marcos, San Diego. He made a name for himself after discovering a young Tina Turner, and the rest is Academy Award-nominated history. Toward the end of his life, he was remorseful about his treatment of Tina and others. "I know what I am in my heart. And I know regardless of what I've done, good and bad, it took it all to make me what I am today." We hear you, Ike. We hear you.

Yes, he was a rat-bastard wife-beater, but Tina's music never sounded half as good without him.

Past the vats of boiling murderers,
Past the rapists gnashing their teeth,
There's a small, dimly lit room with a chair.
As Ike sits down, the door locks,
And "Private Dancer" is piped in.
Forever.
Once many years ago I went to Eli's Mile High Club in Oakland and as an incredible surprise Ike Turner was playing. Turns out he had just gotten out of jail and was ready to rock along with his Ike'ettes. Was a truly great show. And he didn't hit anyone!
"You can go ask Snoop Dogg or Eminem, you can ask the Rolling Stones or (Eric) Clapton, or you can ask anybody — anybody, they all know my contribution to music".
Not to mention The Prodigy!
Cher went to Sonny's funeral.
