SFist Photo: Illegal Soapbox Derby atop Bernal Hill

A few practice runs in Bernal Heights on a fine day for racing in San Francisco

Yes, it's the annual coaster car race in the Bernal. That means you can use a soap box or just about anything else. See what it was like, after the jump.

We didn't see any pile-ups this year. Nothing like the time Puck from MTV's Real World threw a post-crash hissy a while back.

No, it was just good clean racing. See a gallery for 2007 from Laughing Squid here. And the Telstar Logistics employee blog now has something up. Here are some Telstar photos from 2005 and 2006 as well.

Hacker-Poet Dav Yaginuma posted some video here and Mesh SF offers a unique perspective here.

Red Bull seems to always be at these kinds of events and you can't begin without a little refreshment. This stuff is kosher and halal, and now they have diet, so woo hoo!

Local street toughs were on hand to lend racers a tow up the hill. The moped craze continues.

And we're off. Genuine wheel-to-wheel racing.

He didn't nudge ya, he didn't hit ya, he didn't ram ya. He rubbed ya. And rubbing's racing.

i really like that shot of the entire hill, nice work.

more coverage here.

sfist, telstar logistics, laughing squid all in the area for this fine event. SF bloggers unite!

What's wrong with the guy driving the three beer keg car?

He's drinking water. Totally out of the spirit of his entry.

Believe that to be a bottle of Corona. Not the safest choice having glass aboard, but he was one of more capable pilots.
