It's Hard not to be Well-Dressed When Surrounded by Men in Leatherpig Outfits

Oh what's that you say? You enjoy the company of sweaty fisters, and you enjoy a spot of Earl Grey (hot)? Well today's your lucky day, and by "today" we mean "tomorrow."

We were alerted to an alternative-alternative picnic happening at the Folsom Street Fair via the Finch Mob, a terrifying local gang of drug addicts. Apparently some folks are going to dress up real nice, and plop themselves down to have a fancy-dress afternoon tea party. Will there be any recreation of famous religious paintings at this little cotillion?

We ourselves have been known to organize fancy-dress tea parties in unlikely locales, but staging a blatant display of decorum and modesty -- in public, no less! Where our children can see! -- takes the whole overdressed thing to an enticing new level. "VERY CONSERVATIVE," the organizer describes the affair, which we hope is no idle threat.

We can't wait for the next time that some conservative talk show whips out photos of debauchery and hedonism at the Folsom Street Fair, attempting to prove that SF is the nexus of western civ's decline; because then we can retort "but what about THESE" and brandish some photos of a Very Decent Afternoon Tea.

I actually went to last year's Folsom Street Fair (or Dore? I can't remember) wearing my navy blue pinstripe suit with a Hermès tie and wingtips, with the thought that a business suit was just as much fetish-wear as a leather harness. Some people appreciated this, some didn't, but the point is -- I'm not sure that this tea party will be seen as an oasis of propriety, devoid of fetish, or just further proof of just how wide a variety of objects and outfits can be fetishized. Don't get me wrong, it sounds fun either way...

And before you ask: no, Matty, you can't borrow my straw boater again.

Local artist Nifer Fahrion (of NifNaks) is the prudish mind behind this appallingly respectable scheme.

For those of you who would like to join us, simply head to 8th & Folsom Street at 2 o'clock on Sunday. (Our exact spot is subject to change a little, so just look for the cluster of white lace, kickers and propriety.)

While we'll be bringing tea and sandwiches and much of the requisite paraphernalia, the more guests who BYOT, the better; Snacks, tea, sandwiches and so forth will all be graciously appreciated.
