It's the latest in the Tsk Tsk Supervisorial codes of conduct battle front!
You've got sex, you've got drugs, all you need now is some rock and roll: Supervisor Chris Daly went and introduced the code of conduct regulations he's been waving around ever since his fellow supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier said she was going to put in some rules about (his) offensive language.
Daly's code would prohibit sexual relationships between managers and subordinates at City Hall, prohibit attendance at meetings while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and require meeting agendas to include attendance records of the member supervisors. Daly says this will decrease the City's liability exposure, and also says that he's seen certain supervisors at meetings buzzed on something or other, though he declined to say who they were.
Daly tried to get three other supes to sign off on this so he could put it on the November ballot, but failed -- so his proposal will go up before the Rules Committee at the same time as Michela Alioto-Pier's. If we had to guess, we'd say both of 'em are going to fail. And then there's going to be a huge blowout vulgarity-laden meth orgy at City Hall! Yay!
This was the best finger-wagging picture of Chris Daly we found in our search of Creative Commons-licensed Flickr pictures. By Steve Rhodes, of course!

Alas, given the lack of attendance records, we'll never know who was at those huge blowout vulgarity-laden meth orgies."
Sound like sensible rules to me ... although I'd suggest we try to make sure Supervisors aren't taking prescription/legal drugs as well ... folks making $100k/year with great medical insurance (I assume - the City gives it away to employees, right?) probably get all sorts of pills if they ask for them which can distort their sensibilities.
When did SF become the sequel to "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?" It seems we are testing the next premise, "Can you manage a city better than a 5th grader?"
Sadly, in our case... it seems our managers CANT.
... and of course I'm referring to folks taking prescriptions to purposely distort their minds for a trip, not antibiotics to get rid of an infection or insulin for diabetes, so on and so forth.
Health benefits is one of the biggest perks of being a San Francisco city employee. After 5 years of city employment the city provides health insurance for rest of the employee's life. I believe there is currently a $5 billion liability to pay current and former employee's health benefits.
Oh and that is another reason it is a crock that Chris Daly was able to qualify for a Below Market Rate condo, I don't believe the value of lifetime health insurance is figured when calculating income.

I love how there is this need to legislate city leaders acting like responsible, professional adults.
guest 5, that is totally news to me. So what happens when these folks get high-powered corporate jobs after leaving civil service? Does it amount to corporate welfare when we pay the insurance that their new employers would normally be paying?
Oh my Goodness, I cannot wait until one day Chris blows and goes off about Ross Mirkarimi and his raging Meth / Pills / Cocaine / Alcohol / Heroin addiction.
It's probably not okay that I think literally everyone even remotely famous has horrible addictions to one thing or another... maybe Ross is a sex addict. In which case I'm going to try and get a hold of him, excuse me...
so much for the olive branch daly extended to newsom the other day in his office over affordable housing. this guy just can't get out of his way to be a successful leader for any cause.
Rita, have you no sense of recent efforts made by Daly and Newsom to put their differences aside? Your regurgitation of old news appears to be your hope to keep Daly and Newsom divided.
Shameful.
I don't think attendance matters. It's not like anything improves around here anyway. Most cities don't have a board of supervisors. Why do we? Really, someone answer that.
you mean michela is going to show up to work? wow! that's news!
oh and it's so funny in those pics at fog city how she denies on AOL instant messenger she was riding in a limo at city expense -it was KAMALA HARRIS' limo!
where's the code of conduct for that?

An answer to [12]'s question about why we have a Board of Supervisors, from wikipedia:
"As the official name implies, the City and County of San Francisco is a consolidated city-county, being simultaneously a charter city and charter county with a consolidated government, a status it has had since 1856. It is the only such consolidation in California and the only California county with a mayor who is also the county executive. San Francisco is the only California city with a board of supervisors, which is also the city council."
Some other examples of consolidated city-county are Denver, Philadelphia, Honolulu, Anchorage.
Where's the famous Chris Daly screaming at a cop pic from a few years ago? That one is a classic.
I would assume that it depends on what the benefits package of that new corporate high powered job is. If, like most of us here who don't work for the ciry, you have to contribute to your own medical insurance or your coverage isn't as good as the city's plan (which I think is quite generous) then you would stay on the city's plan. As for someone like Willie Brown, who also is covered for his many years in Sacramento (20 years for full coverage for life), I don't know who pays.
Doesn't every city and even town have some governing body? [rhetorical?][12]
It might be called the city council, aldermen or as in SF, board of supersillists. Some cities have a mayor plus a city manager who is like a mini mayor, but they have some kinda council too.
The supervisors are the equivalent of congress vs. mayor who is the executive branch like our King Bush II.
