By a 5-1 vote, the San Francisco Taxi Commission said that poor Michael Byrne will have to keep taxi cab medallion #666. The meeting sounded like a hoot too as the head of the cab drivers union testified while wearing red horns. While speaking to the commission, he said: "How dare you take Lucifer's number away. This is a serious issue.'' We also love that in the minutes of the meeting, a footnote had to be added to let everyone know that the truth of the Book of Revelations "cannot be verified." O rly? Byrne did not attend.
Now, not that we're experts in this thing, but would it be that big of a deal to change the number? And what is the president of the cab drivers union doing not defending one of his boys? Isn't that his job?
Oh well.
Hmmm...maybe Byrne's next step could be to go see an Exorcist? Either way, if we were ever to get into that particular cab, we're going to be muttering, "the power of Christ compels you" the whole way through.

I agree, what's the big deal about changing the number. If we can skip the 13th floor in elevators, we can certainly skip over #666 for taxis. You gotta like the devil horns, though. Taking Satan lightly -- just the thing to tick him off.
I thought Satan's real number was 616, the area code of... rhode island?
6+6+6=18 A very lucky number to Jewish people, Chai meaning life.
I have ridden in cab 666 in Chicago at least a half dozen times and I LOVE IT. The driver is very charming, the zebra print seat cover in back is exquisite and the decorations remind me of the cab in Pedro Almodovar's Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. That driver is missing his opportunity to stand out from the crowd. He needs a lesson in lemonade making.
You forgot to mention (mayoral candidate) Grasshopper's admission during public comment that he stole the numbers off of Ed Jew's house. Then begged the SFPD to arrest him.
Item three public comment, about 15 minutes into the item.
Dosen't the head of the taxi driver's union represent the good of the "whole" of taxi drivers? If one member was doing something injurious to the larger group, shouldn't he represent the larger group?
Simply turn the medallion upside down. 666 becomes 999. CASE CLOSED.
