There's a profile of Phil Ginsburg, the new mayoral chief of staff, in today's Chron. Basically, it's a hard job, Ginsburg took a $75K paycut when he took it, and he was nonplussed when, about one week in, he got stuck dealing with the Ruby Rippey-Tourk/rehab circus. Also, Ginsburg is really into org charts.
Interestingly, though, pretty much everyone admits (or at least doesn't deny) that Gavin is difficult to work with, and praise Ginsburg for "not drinking the Kool-Aid" for the administration. Supervisor Bevan Dufty was brave enough to go on the record and say that when he heard Ginsburg had accepted the position, he called Ginsburg and said, "You didn't ask me, but I would have told you not to take the job." Guess Dufty and Newsom are still fighting, then?
Newsom, for his part, says he's glad he has a chief of staff that has little political experience, saying, "I don't want a political strategist. I want a manager. I'll ... sort of come up with the audacious ideas." We're looking forward to seeing the audacious ideas that Newsom sort of comes up with next!

speakin of rippy tourk-- she just partied at medjool celebrating her 1 year of sobriety. emily morse threw her a bash. u think ruby celebrated by drinking a bottle of wine? i heard ruby turned down a deal to be in playboy. isn't she too old for that?....

You fail to mention, as did Chron that Ginsberg is another Hellman protoge and worked for Wells Fargo in their 'farm system' as did Cisneros and Ting and half of the rest of the elected officials in town. Warren is merely tightening the noose.
Also not mentioned is that Ginsburg's first major business was to gut union seniority priveleges as head of Human Resources. He fired dozens of dpw workers to make room for Nuru's thugs.
If you think this guy is losing money, you're naive. You can bet the juice has doubled from another direction for every direct municipal dollar he's passed.

Yogo - The post is about Ginsberg. h could hate all sorts of people and have complex motivations for posting additional information about Ginsberg's connections. But how is that relevant? Could it be relevant (if true) that Ginsberg was mentored by Hellman?
h is right, this guy is nothing to celebrate much less get a major puff piece (ala gavin) in a national paper. Phil is holding space waiting to be appointed to supervisor or better. He did gut civil service with disregard for hundreds of working families, he did give special treatment to Ruby to curry favor with the mayor and get the job he's in and worse he validates gavins betrayal of Alex by staying in the job after gavin destroyed Alexs family. Actually maybe this is his and gavins plan for getting more families to stay in the city, destroy one healthy family thereby creating two new ones, put that on your charts phil. Good luck on the career change phil when you want to see where it will all take you just look no farther than Steve Kawa, ragone, Alex or Ruby.
Oh, one other tidbit about phil, our illustrious former head of the Department of Human Resources. On his watch he allowed a senior African American city manager to be set up and fired by gavin for political purposes only to have that manager later go to trial and be found not guilty on all trumped up charges. At the same time he fired the guy gavins new manager was actually found to be guilty of worse infractions. Don't respect and like black managers phil? Maybe they don't fit in well with the crowd you run with.
I'm unable to make heads or tails of about 75% of the commenting going on here. Brevity, proofreading, and citation of sources might help lubricate the communication.
i AGREE with h and adam and jonesey. this scumbag is part of the nasty group that PULLS the strings downtown and city hall. they HATE the poor and working class and black. one minority STEPS on another to get ahead and screw us all. did you notice kind words from committee on jobs naman? yes indeedy.
On another tack, am I the only one who thinks use of the phrase "drink the Kool-Aid" by a public official is crass? What does Spvr. Dufty think the hundreds of family and friends of the hundreds who died under Jim Jones hands at Guyana feel when they see that phrase used so lightly? Is a Holocaust joke next?
I used to drink Kool-Aid, when I was a kid. These days, I'm more of a Crystal Light fan. Lemonade anyone?
Okay, read citation twice before commenting... It was an "anonymous" official who used the Kool-Aid phrase, but still... I'm just sayin'.
Oh bah, it's a common phrase now. To complain about it is to take sensitivity to a ridiculous level.
Besides, if anything, they should be embarrassed that their family members were stupid/weak enough to join a cult in the first place, not bellyaching about the phrase related to their actions.
reference comment #1, what in God's name is Ruby doing hanging around booze joints? her brains must still be pickled. and what in hell would a friend (ha ha) arange a sobriety party for her at a booze joint? I guess it's one thing to be sober for a year, depending on how you define sobriety; another thing not to have taken a drink. Given her history, it probably takes a hell of a lot of booze to render her "unsober." And where the hell is her son? she hasn't been much a part of his life yet and she's still partying. sometimes I wonder if she ever was an alcoholic or if it's just a cover story.
