It's tough to describe what a Moomin is -- they look like Japanese kawaii-things, but they're really quiet-natured Finnish creatures with a knack for finding magical adventures. There's a dark edge to the charming stories, with dialogue like, "Can't you forgive us for eating your husband?" "When I come to think of it -- yes, in fact he was an awful bore." In the preview issue released by the magnificent Drawn and Quarterly, the Moomins set out on a picnic, but find themselves marooned on a strange island when their helicopter, confounded by a typhoon, decides to go home without them. Top-notch.
