SFist Watches: Movies This Weekend

Hello, Mr. Fancy Pants! The San Francisco International Film Festival has chosen Graham Leggat to be their new Executive Director (replacing Roxanne Messina Captor). We just want to burn our resume after looking at his, which includes the Film Society of Lincoln Center, the New York Film Festival, and Film Comment magazine. It'll be interesting to see what he brings to the 49th Festival (April 2006 - May 4, 2006), given the mixed response last year's roster seemd to inspire.

But we can worry about this later, because this weekend all we want to do it take a ride with our friend The Transporter 2. We say the first one in the glorious Coronet (and please hold the comments on how programming decisions like that might have hastened its demise becasue yeah, we know), and we are gonna head out to see this one too. We can't help it -- Jason Statham is pretty much our dream dude, and watching him do silly kicks and (we hope) beating up Matthew Modine (dare we hope for a Vision Quest battle of BJJ vs. Greco-Roman wrestling?) is our idea of Labor (as in we labor to care if there's a plot) Day dream. Go see it at one of those big theaters that drove the Coronet (RIP) out of business.

If you're one of those people who considers themselves above that kind of crap, don't forget that you still have a chance to win passes to Reel Paradise, since we won't be picking winners until we get up tomorrow. Warning: the pets wake us up early, so enter to win now!

Loyal readers of SFist might recall Rita's review of Margaret Cho's latest show, Assassin. Well, now you can share Rita's experience with the theatrical release of the show, which is playing at the Roxie.

It sounds like we weren't the only ones who were left cold by the Brothers Grimm, judging by the emails we've recieved. Bring back your Terry Gilliam love at the Red Vic, where Brazil is playing tonight and tomorrow. Who cares if you've seen it before? Brazil is one of those movies that grows richer and more intricate every time you watch it, and we're willing to wager that many of our readers haven't ever seen it on the big screen.

How about you? Are you giving in to the advertising monolith of The Constant Gardner? Taking the word of David Chapelle's son ("daddy, he's hilarious!") and going to see Nick Cannon's Underclassman? Listen, readers, we're all in it together, so share what you're into seeing this weekend in the comments!
