Bay Blogger Thursday

We love the idea of neighborhood-centered blogs, and have been hearing about more and more of them. The one most recently brought to our attention is the Potrero Hill Blog. After experiencing a crime firsthand, Mike, the blog's creator, got involved with several neighborhood organizations and mailing lists, where "There was a bit of heated discussion...concerning crimes that occurred, but no actionable solution. I thought a blog might be a good vehicle to create public awareness of issues concerning our neighborhood, and hopefully spark discussion and community activism."
While right now it's mainly a Potrero Police Blotter with a little ChronWatch thrown in for good measure, Mike tells SFist:
I'm really hoping to bring the Potrero Hill community together and utilize the site as a catalyst for community activism. There's been a recent crime wave in our neighborhood targeting senior citizens, and caretakers of small children. I'd like to elevate awareness around that particular issue and others affecting us, and see what we as a community can do to motivate positive change. Also, Potrero Hill is a unique neighborhood in that a large public housing community abuts a neighborhood that has seen a lot of development and wealth pour into it over the last few years. I'd love to try to bridge the gap, and see how the blog might be able to help bring the Potrero Hill community closer together.
On the light-hearted side of things, I'm hoping that the blog will cover local businesses, events, and generally elevate community within Potrero Hill.
Mike, we at SFist share your concerns, especially those you mention on SF's digital divide. Bridge that gap, brother!
