Wordpress, Incorporated

We're here at the Odeon at the behest of Matt Mullenweg, who, besides celebrating over a hundred thousand Wordpress downloads, announced today the formation of Wordpress, Inc. Wordpress is the free, open-source blogging solution that promises a great user interface and less server load and comment/trackback spam than MoveableType (though we assume that as Wordpress takes over marketshare, the spammers will take note). Granted, we're a bit biased -- we love publishing SFist using MoveableType, but after hearing all the great things that Wordpress offers are looking for an excuse to put a WP install on our personal web host [Ed. Note: Where we currently run Blogger, if there's any confusion as to our lack of loyalty to any particular tool.].

Matt also announced that the first hire by Wordpress will be the inimitable Jonas Luster, International Man of Mystery. Though it's not necessarily a full-time gig, Jonas will be busy keeping the "corporate" out of "incorporated," we're sure. Nothing like a rainy night in the Outer Mission, drinking "Death and Taxes" porter and posting to the blog via a bluetooth-to-cellular modem to make you feel all warm and geeky inside.

Thanks to Dogster Ted for the wireless laptop hookup so that we could scoop the internets.
