I don't want to be caught calling "wolf", but I'm hearing from my friends that the surf contest at Maverick's is going to be held this Wednesday. (This is the second time I've heard the rumor this winter, and they didn't hold it the first time, so don't clear your schedule just yet.) The contest website is at here and it doesn't indicate yet that the contest is on, but that might change in a day or two. You can keep an eye on it if you're interested. The swell is forcasted to be 12 feet at 17 seconds, which isn't gonna be giant, so if it doesn't show up as predicted or the winds are bad, then the contest won't go. But it could still be a good day to watch even if the contest isn't on.

As far as parking goes, it'll be a zoo. Pull into the harbor (west on Capistrano at the light) and take the first left. On your left hand side is a big parking lot. I would park there and look for a shuttle bus (if they have it this year) or just start walking. I think that would be faster than trying to get a parking spot closer to the site. There's a good walk involved regardless of where you park (half to one mile). When you get out to the point you have to scramble up the cliffside to get a view, so don't bother bringing a lawn chair, but an old beach blanket might make it more comfortable. Beware of walking out the jetty to get a better view -- sometimes people get washed off the rocks by the bigger waves.
