San Francisco police were called to the scene of a shooting in the Civic Center area Saturday afternoon that led to a transbay car chase and an arrest in West Oakland.

Officers arrived on scene around 12:45 pm to the corner of Hyde Street and Golden Gate Avenue, according to KPIX/CBS SF. They found a victim sitting in a car suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries and would later succumb to his injuries. The shooting was ruled a homicide, and is the city's 17th of the year.

While police were at the scene investigating, officers spotted a car fleeing away, and a chase ensued. The chase took police and the suspect over the Bay Bridge and into Oakland, where the suspect was stopped and apprehended near 24th Street and Mandela Parkway in West Oakland.

According to NBC Bay Area News, a gun was found with the suspect. There has been no confirmation that the gun was the same used in the shooting.

As the Examiner reports, the suspect was booked on suspicion of homicide, and has not yet been identified.

Fortunately, no police or civilians were injured during the chase and arrest.
