Another windless December day means another Winter Spare the Air Alert declared for today, Wednesday the 21st. That brings our tally to eight days without solid fuel burning this season, and as we inch closer to the Yule Time tradition of burning a fat log all afternoon the forecast calls for stagnant conditions to last well into Christmas weekend.

Sadly, that means our worst fears have come true: San Francisco and the greater Bay Area may actually ban Christmas. Or at least the part of Christmas that includes the cozy warmth and smokey scent of logs in the hearth. So instead, let's all gather 'round the flatscreen TV this Christmas day and play the Yule Log HD on repeat. That crackle may sound comforting, but the cold glow of those LCD panels sure won't heat your apartment.

And speaking of burning things for eight days, lighting the Menorah is still cool.
