First hand reports from friends and twitterers at tonight's Niners game against the Steelers are telling us Candlestick Park is currently in complete darkness due to a power outage. No lights means no football and Monday Night Football is on hold until further notice.
We'll update as we know more.
Update, 5:40 p.m.: Bleacher Report brings us the above photo/aerial view from the TV cameras.
For the youngs in the audience, twitterer @EvySmith reminds us that the time of the outage (5:19 p.m.) is almost exactly the same time as the power outage during the 1989 World Series. Although that time, the ballpark had a good excuse. (The Loma Prieta Earthquake, obviously.)
Update, 5:50 p.m.: According to CSN Bay Area, who brings us the below photo of the 'Stick in the dark, the power outage was due to a blown transformer (all the more reason we need a new ballpark in town). Power was restored by 5:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, PG&E reports "only 1 customer" was affected by the outage. Which: sure, tell that to the 70,000 people in attendance, PG&E.
#Candlestick Outage - Power has been restored. Cause under investigation; could be a # of factors. Only 1 customer affected (Candlestick).
