Not too surprisingly, Richmond residents are still a little testy about the whole thing. In particular, residents are upset that the plants' much-hyped warning system failed to notify them. Most residents slept right through the warning sirens, and failed to receive notification phone calls.

Apparently the alarm system is hard to hear if residents have their windows shut. The only thing that finally did wake residents up was the sound of fire trucks and helicopters outside their homes.

And in other Richmond news: There's a Wal-Mart a’ coming! After many tentative plans, Wal-Mart announced they're setting up shop in Richmond, as part of a program to move into cities with high crime/ high unemployment and foster the local businesses (really that's what they're saying).

This latest Wal-Mart will be at the site of the Hilltop Mall off of Route 80 - a mall like no other in its uncanny placement of all our favorite under-priced, pre-teen-fashion stores in one location. Most of the mall will remain open, so you can still hit up The Icing when you like.

Of course, we think the whole idea of a Wal-Mart actually working to revitalize local economy seems a little counterintuitive. Papa Wal-Mart claims it will do all sorts of nice things to work alongside local businesses and help them grow. But we can't really get behind the plan, no matter how hippie and tree-hugging Wal-Mart has been acting lately.

Meanwhile, until the new Richmond store opens, feel free to shop at one of the more than sixteen Wal-Marts near you…
