This week's adoptable pet (he'll be featured on SFist all week long on the right side of the site, below the ads) comes to us from Grateful Dogs Rescue. Aw, Porter. Who doesn't love Black Labs?

Porter is a handsome hunk of young dog, who is beautiful to look at and has a beautiful warm spirit as well. Porter is just a great dog! He is very people oriented and wags his tail in greeting, and ready to give affection in return for some good petting!

He has an incredible, sweet temperament and shares his food, toys and treats with his foster siblings. He let a 5 month pup take a chewie right out of his mouth without any reaction! His calm, gentle demeanor shows in his nice approach to people, never jumping on them. Still a young fellow, he is quite energetic and loves to go for walks and hikes! After getting daily exercise, Porter is happy to curl up on a comfy bed and take a nap. He settles down nicely in the house; while his foster mom is at work he hasn't shown any destructiveness or had accidents. He does well with other dogs too.

Porter might have been handled harshly in his previous home and with all the new changes, is an insecure guy right now. He will need lots of love and the right guidance and reassurance. Stairs are worrisome to him, and so is jumping in the car and he will need a little patience and help on that. He also needs some work on his leash manners and would benefit from positive-method obedience training classes. Respectful children, over 10 recommended.
