aspsx49t.jpgA truck filled with 60 cows tipped over in Contra Costa County yesterday. Ha! Despite our most diligent efforts, we are unable to find any pictures from the scene, so we're going with the "Cow Crossing" sign you see to your left.

One person is dead after a dramatic shooting in the Sunset early Monday morning -- the shots were fired at a moving car, which then flipped over and crashed. The Chron has some unsettling pictures of the scene.

Firebug! On Thursday May 17th, the cops found this guy at the scene of a fire at a pizza restaurant in North Beach at 6 a.m. (we're thinking it's the Cable Car Pizza on the 400 block of Broadway, but aren't sure.) The man claimed he'd been locked in the bathroom when the restaurant closed at 3 a.m. and had set the fire to get attention. When the restaurant owner said some money was missing from the register, the man waved around a wad of cash and said he'd rescued it from the fire. He was arrested. Three days later, the same guy called the cops saying he'd left all the gas burners in his apartment on. He's since been checked into the psych ward.

sfblotter521.jpgA man stabbed a 15-year-old girl and the man who tried to stop the attack on her, in a Twin Peaks bakery on Saturday (link fixed per comments). The man, Scott Thomas, had just been released from San Quentin the day before, where he'd been in solitary confinement for attacking a guard. Thomas had been sent to San Quentin for violating the terms of his parole (which he's done 8 times since 2001 -- it looks like he went in originally on a mix of grand and petty theft-type charges). Thomas was caught by two police officers who were in the area, and who described him as covered with blood, carrying a hunting knife, and speaking and singing incoherently. The girl is improving, and the man who intervened suffered only minor injuries.

There was a shootout by the ocean over the weekend -- a man stealing a bicycle at around 1 a.m. Saturday morning near 48th and Taraval fired shots at the cops, hitting their car. The cops returned fire, but the thief fled. He was later found hiding in shrubbery by Santiago and the Great Highway around 4:45 a.m. with injuries to his hand, and taken into custody.

And yes, we have now moved to the portion of the blotter where dog bites man. A dog being rescued off a cliff at Fort Funston near the hang gliders bit the firefighter trying to rescue him/her, on the face. We know the doggie didn't mean it!

It's a tough biz, the tourism industry -- the cops had to break up a fight between the Bush Man, the Clown Man, and the Fisherman over who got to work what turf on Fisherman's Wharf last weekend. Doesn't the Bush Man just sneak up on the other guys' turf when they're not looking?

A large mysterious package in the Sunset on Noriega and 24th occasioned a call to the SFPD bomb squad. Turned out it just contained videotapes.

There's been a bunch of fires in Los Gatos lately -- most notably, a fire in the local nudist resort. Put away the weenie roast jokes -- no one was injured.

Lotta activity on Capp Street lately: not only was a man caught beating and trying to strangle a woman around 15th and Capp, but a few weeks earlier, the SFFD found a pot farm on fire two blocks down, in the same building as the Space 180/Locus Arts gallery (where Kim-Shree Maufas and Jane Kim had their school board election party.)

ca_open03_ariel.jpgAnd in other clusters of crime news -- not only did Berkeley chalk up its first murder of 2007 this weekend, there was two other incidents early Monday morning in the middle of the city, where a man first stabbed a woman in the arm (on Milvia and Dwight) and then stabbed two firefighters at the firehouse on Shattuck and Derby 15 minutes later. He had gotten into the fire house because the door had been left open by crews going out to treat the first victim. The man was later found, by search dogs, hiding under someone's patio on Milvia and Parker.

Okay, this isn't crime-related at all, but it's so awesome we gotta share: Ariel Hsing, an 11-year-old girl from San Jose whupped both Bill Gates and Warren Buffett at table tennis. Hsing is ranked number one in the girls under 16 table tennis division, and was flown out to Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway shareholders' meeting, where she not only beat both Gates and Buffett but everyone else who challenged her to a match. It's a crime.... to be so good at ping-pong??

That picture of Ariel Hsing is several years old, and is from when she won in the under 10 age bracket division.

55928_PE161241_S3.jpgA man was stabbed at 11th and Folsom at around 1:30 Monday morning. The victim is alive but suffered life-threatening wounds.

An angry neighbor in Belmont got so sick of the noise from her neighbor's evening carpentry activities that she revved up her black 1995 Mustang at around 11:30 p.m. and ran over the cabinets he was working on (and then fled the scene). Because she was shouting racial epithets at the time, she was booked not just for assault but also for committing a hate crime.

And our new favorite Blotter city -- Fremont! It sounds like nonstop hilarity there! A woman protesting the new Fremont Hooters as "pornography," and as promoting "lust and gluttony," has been asked out a couple of times by the restaurant's managers. That is so The Onion. (She's turned them down because she's married.)
