If this San Francisco woman is any kind of bellwether, Hillary Clinton will not win in San Francisco tomorrow.

Your Commute: Recursive Car Accident
Sounds like a mess down on 880 just north of Highway 84, where a big rig ran off the highway at around 1 a.m. this morning and spilled its cargo all over the highway. The cargo in question -- crushed cars.
Yay for Buses and Oxygen! Boooo for Pretending that Hummers are "Low-Emission"!
So, obviously, SFist can't even pretend to be neutral when it comes to Prop A. We've been covering its progress for months, and now it's evolved into a smart, fair compromise that has just about everyone on board -- everyone except a local Republican group. Our local GOP is backing the loathsome Prop H, which would, no joke, replace bus stops, trees, and bike lanes with parking garages. Could this be any more like . Puh. Leeeeeeez. And did we mention that Prop H was designed by a company that builds parking garages? Oh how terribly sly.
Your Commute: Did You Spare The Air?
So the Chronicle says not that many people took advantage of free public transportation today for the first Spare The Air day of the season, but the BART train we were on was certainly pretty crowded. We love Spare The Air days, where all of a sudden the kids that everyone always says they never see in San Francisco materialize out of nowhere and ride the rails all day. (Or for today, until 1 p.m., when the BART gates slam shut.) We almost asked a group of giggling youth on the platform "shouldn't you be in school?" but didn't want to go all Principal Ed Rooney from Ferris Bueller's Day Off on them. Watch out for Ferraris falling from garages later today!
Your Commute: BART Delays; Fire In Embarcadero
Just in time for the Friday commute -- a MUNI fire has closed the Embarcadero station. BART trains are going through without stopping, the Chron doesn't know what's going on with MUNI. The fire was electrical, and on the roof of a MUNI train. BART is experiencing 20-30 minute residual delays as we speak.
Your Commute: Meltdown! (Sorry, We're Not MattyMatt)
Well, first and most importantly! -- SFist MattyMatt's started a new job so he's been pretty busy at work and hasn't had time to post lately, for all folks asking about him in the SFist Tips column!. But he's still here, we promise! We miss him too! (Meanwhile, you guys can always check out his personal blog.)
Your Commute: Slowest Drives
Bless the Chron's heart, they know kvetching about traffic is going to move a lot of papers on the newsstand -- so they go above the fold with their article about the twenty worst bottlenecks on the highway. As you'd've guessed, that horrendous interchange at Emeryville for 80/580/880 where you have to get over five lanes just to go south ranks high on the list.
Your Commute: MUNI Transformers
Transformers.... more than meets the eye! Not only robots in disguise, but also the source of today's MUNI irritation. Curse you, Decepticons!
Your Commute: Fire Near The BART
If you're headed to South Hayward or points beyond on the Fremont BART lines, there's delays due to a grass fire near the South Hayward BART station.
Your Commute: N Judah Delays
We're reading on the Chron that unspecified "police action" between 25th and 30th Avenues in the Sunset has completely blocked the N Judah. MUNI is setting up buses between 19th and Sunset Blvd, and the buses will go down Kirkham.
Surprise: Parking Garage Company Wants to Build LA-Style Garages in SF
Say hello to your new next door neighbor: a parking garage. Petitioners are currently collecting signatures for a "build more parking" petition, but the terms are insane: it wouldn't just allow developers to install big garages, it would that all new homes build on extra parking, at the expense of living space. Require! As in, the government says that you don't have a choice!
Your Commute: Fire On Treasure Island
The commute across the Bay Bridge is a little backed up because of a three-alarm fire burning on Treasure Island. The building in question is an abandoned warehouse, and started around 7 a.m. today.
Your Commute: Oh No, Ed Jew's Commute!
Why are all the roads collapsing around here? A newly-installed piece of pavement on came loose at around 5 a.m. this morning, necessitating the closure of three lanes of traffic near Burlingame.
Your Commute: Yet Another Truck Overturns
There's been an awful lot of trucks spilling things lately. Today's overturn -- a truck carrying 60,000 pounds of turf on 580, near Livermore. Delays are expected to run about 4-5 hours. The truck driver suffered minor injuries, but a driver in the car next to the big rig suffered major ones. We're wishing him a speedy recovery.
Your Commute: 880 Sucks The Most
The results are in! What local highway is the worst to commute on, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Committee? Congratulations, 880! You win!

You should not attempt to parallel park this vehicle, we say.
Your Commute: Huge Accident on 101
Wow, almost everything we've posted today on SFist (except for SFist Tonight) is transportation-themed. Well, we're sorry to have to continue the trend with this news item: there's been a bad accident on 101 near Redwood City, involving a big rig that hit the center divide and burst into flames. What's going on with all these trucks combusting around here these days?
Your Commute: The BART Wye
Sorry this update is late -- we were stuck in the tunnel ourselves! Due to mechanical problems on an SFO/Millbrae bound train around 8 this morning, BART got about 30-45 minutes behind on the morning commute schedule in both directions. The jam should be cleared by now, anyways.
Your Commute: Lumber Spill In Golden Gate Park
Those of you who commute from Marin to 280, you may want to go down Van Ness today -- all southbound traffic has been stopped through Golden Gate Park just south of Fulton and down Park Presidio as the authorities clean up the mess (no story, but video clip on front page) from an overturned lumber truck.
Your Commute: Cars In The Chron
Remember how everyone was so upset because it turns out that SF doesn't collect on like 60% of parking meter money? Well, the second half of the study is in and it turns out the city makes up virtually all of that difference in parking meter fines. (Thanks, opera/parking blogger The Standing Room, for helping the city balance its budget!) By contrast to the 40% scofflaw rate for meters, the city collects 97% of the $21 million billed out in parking tickets. Oh, the power of The Boot.
Your Commute: "People Love To Talk About MUNI"
Guess who's back talking about MUNI for the ABC 7 I-Team?????? (4:33 on the video). Since Gavin hasn't done anything outrageous lately, Dan Noyes turns his attention to the perennial favorite of complaining about MUNI -- this time discovering the name of the driver who's gotten the most citizen complaints (for ignoring a beating at the back of the bus, refusing to call the police on pickpockets, and swearing at passengers, to name a few.) SFist MattyMatt is, awesomely, playing the role of expert MUNI rider activist in this clip. "It's up to the people who actually use Muni .... to come in and say, 'All right, well we expect more. We want Muni to be better than it is.'" Hear, hear!! (And we love your shirt, SFist MattyMatt!)
Your Commute: Oy Vey Part Deux
So those stories out there saying the commute this morning wasn't so bad didn’t quite tell the whole story . Turns out there were some problem spots out there, just not throughout the entire maze and a blogger reports that BART was a lot more crowded than it was yesterday.
Your Commute: Oy Vey
And how is the commute going after yesterday's maze meltdown? So far, so good. Reports are that traffic into the maze was light, as probably everyone who commutes over the Bay Bridge, their dogs, and their fish knows what happened. It's still early yet so we'll see what happens tonight and until the overpass gets fixed.
Muni: "I'm melllllting! Melllllllllllting! Oh, what a world, what a world!"
So, how's that commute going, subway riders? Any better today? More Muni-Meltdown, or less Muni-Meltdown? Above, we've embedded an animation of Metro activity yesterday afternoon; call us crazy, but is seems as though just maybe things are starting to smoothen out a bit, with the exception of the never-ending clustering around Embarcadero. Of course, as with online profiles, the view from the net can sometimes enjoy a vitality that's lacking in real life.
Your Commute: On Fire. Seriously
There was an evacuation of trains on the Fremont and Dublin-Pleasanton BART lines after a fire at a substation knocked out power to part of the system. The fire started at about 10:15 this morning near the Coliseum stop, eventually knocking out power between the Fruitvale and San Leandro stations.
