The head of Apple's new streaming service is apologizing this week, after he suggested that woman, perhaps because they are woman (?) are confused by how to find music to listen to.

Record producer Jimmy Iovine is the co-founder of Interscope Records and Beats Electronics, the audio hardware/software company purchased by Apple in 2014, at which point Iovine became an Apple employee.

It was in that role that Iovine appeared on CBS This Morning Thursday, ostensibly to promote Apple's streaming music service. But while he was there, he made some remarks that had women shaking their heads — or their fists — at the 62-year-old impresario.

Explaining Apple's new ad campaign, in which Mary J. Blige, Kerry Washington, and Taraji P. Henson describe the service's playlist curation as like having a “boyfriend that makes you a mixtape,” Iovine said that “So I always knew that women find it very difficult at times - some women - to find music."

“I just thought of a problem," Iovine said during the interview. "Girls are sitting around, you know, talking about boys. Or complaining about boys, you know, when they're heartbroken or whatever. And they need music for that, right? So it's hard to find the right music, you know. Not everybody has the right lists, or knows a DJ or something."

Here's the entire segment:

As you can imagine, the reaction was fast and furious, with everyone from Refinery 29 to Business Insider calling Iovine out for his remarks.

And Twitter...oh, god, Twitter. I'm not going to make you get carpal tunnel scrolling through a million pissed off tweets. I'll just leave this one here:

By the end of the day Thursday, Apple and Iovine were in damage control mode, with the company widely releasing a statement attributed to Iovine. Here it is:

We created Apple Music to make finding the right music easier for everyone — men and women, young and old. Our new ad focuses on women, which is why I answered the way I did, but of course the same applies equally for men. I could have chosen my words better, and I apologize.

You heard him, men! When you're sitting around complaining about boys, Iovine has just the music service for you, too! WHEW.

Early Sunday morning, a nude woman armed with a gun and high on marijuana and ecstasy confronted a motel clerk at the Super 8 in Vacaville. The lunacy started around 2:40 a.m. after motel guest Patricia Wright entered the lobby of a Super 8 on Allison Court and started waving around a gun. NY Daily News reports, "Authorities said the 32-year-old was waving around a loaded .38-caliber semiautomatic. The clerk quickly called 911, then tried to ease the woman's nerves."

According to the Chronicle, Wright "was afraid of her male companion staying with her at the motel." She later gave the clerk the gun, who hid it in a safe place.

After police surrounded the motel, Wright gave up and was arrested and booked into the Salono County Jail. She was charged with several counts, including multiple counts, including possession of a loaded firearm in a public place.

Photo du Jour 323

Females of San Francisco, this is how it's done.

misc

a real woman

beauty

exquisite

free couch

glamor

Muse

perfection

photo du jour

woman

Brock Keeling
