Playing a team that's tired, losing, and banged up? Easy peazy, right? But not for your Golden State Warriors who seem to be unable to do anything easy. Which is one way of looking at it. The other way of looking at it is that they seem to be unable to do anything that isn't exciting! It's all about how you look at the glass. The Warriors were behind for pretty much the entire game and would have lost this game if it weren't for the heroics of Stephen Jackson who scored 41 points and ten of twelve points in a furious last minute rally. Chris Webber, btw, started yet again and got two points and four rebounds in only fourteen minutes of play.

-This year’s Giants- hey, will they be the new '97 Giants or will they score less than Michael Jackson at a Jewish Adults Singles mixer?

-Say you're on 24th and you either have to drop something off or pick something. What do you do? Naturally, you stop in the middle of the street and wait for your partner to run in and out. After all, everybody does it. Who cares about everyone else when you have to return a movie to the video store? Anyways, just thinking out loud here, but wouldn't it be a super-swell idea to maybe drop somebody off and drive around the back a few times so that you don't actually stop and hold up traffic?

Eh, you're right-- that's a stupid idea.

Week Around the -Ists

As it gets closer to Halloween for LAist, a contributer recollects her tale of staring down...

misc

Agent Zero

Angeles

Annie Leibovitz

apple

As

Big Apple

Big Lebowski

bomb

Bush

California

California State Assembly

City

City Councilman

City Councilman James Oddo

comments

DCist

Fabian Nunez

First Lady

First Lady Laura Bush

fun

Georgie James

Gilbert Arenas

Gothamist

Halloween

House

interview

Jack Kehler

James Oddo

Jonny Greenwood

LAist

Laura Bush

Los

Los Angeles

murder

music

Music Video

Night

Night Stalker

Radiohead

stalker

State Assembly

The Big Lebowski

this week

Venice

video

voting

voting rights

Week in -Ists

White House

Wizards

Brock Keeling

DCist spent the week honoring some local heroes. If they were to play the Kansas City Wizards, they'd play at the Paly High JV soccer field. Actually, one of the ideas Wolff has is to play some of the games at Kezar Stadium and if so, we are so there.

They had a cancerous six-game losing streak.

They were winless thus far on an abysmal road trip.

They were nine games under .500, going up against the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons, on the road.

They carried the second-worst road record in the entire Association, a pitiful 6-25.

They had won only once all season in the second game of back-to-backs.

They had never, ever won in the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Oh yes Warriors fans, them playoffs is still out there, lurking just out of grasp. But they're there, and this year, the Warriors are still in the game. Playoffs graphic from the JBL Superleague, whatever the hell that is.

And the previous night they had lost an emotional crusher to the Washington Wizards on a questionable call by the refs and a questionable response by coach Don Nelson.

Did we mention the league's second-worst road record?

So on paper, the preliminary data was pretty convincing: the Warriors should have laid down and died like suffering dogs (sorry PETA, it's just a metaphor) Monday night in Detroit against the East-leading Pistons. Paper, schmaper -- that's why the play the games.

In fact, the Warriors absolutely dominated Monday night, that's right, dom-i-nated the Pistons in all facets of the game and manhandled the former Ft. Wayners for the second time this season, 111-93. Go figure.

Instead of a winless road trip and a seven-game losing streak, the Warriors return home tonight with a feel-good blowout win over Detroit and a surge of momentum -- yup, a surge of momentum coming off a 1-4 road trip.

Go figure:

They swept the season series with Detroit, the first time since the 1993-1994 season.

They notched their first win ever in the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Week in -Ists

Texas is thawing, the Northeast is freezing, and a sort of natural order seems almost restored to the Ist-A-Verse.
Londonist HQ—that is to say, the city of London—was battered by heavy winds, making it a bad time to be a twelve-meter (nearly forty-foot) tall snowman. Still, not everyone decided to keep warmly covered. Meanwhile, back indoors, the racism is now causing all kinds of headaches for international diplomats, and Londonist got into a bit of an argument about whether gridiron—that's American football—is "rubbish".

Chicagoist sounded a cautious note about the supposed declared candidacy of Barack Obama this week. Finally, Chicagoist took a moment to remember when Martin Luther King, Junior's journey brought him to Chicago, and talked with some experts to compile a list of the biggest sins in sketch comedy.

Gothamist reported that if you have a French accent, you might automatically be charged a tip. Which, you know, makes perfect sense. A Manhattan antiques dealer is suing the homeless people who live outside his store—which makes even more sense. A neighborhood power station might just be possessed, but there's nothing that some good brisket and projected art can't fix.

They found themselves completely tongue tied as they learned about Pearl Jam's coffee drinking habits, disappointed with David Lynch's new film, and able to blog about all it from public transit seats.

Parisist was taunted by the idea of late-night Metro service every night of the week. Too bad it's not terribly easy to take babies on mass transit! But of course, why would you want to take your babies with you on a tour of a chocolate factory, or as you follow a day in the life of The Legendary Tiger Man, anyway?

Meanwhile, both bubble tea houses and taxi drivers really need to keep it clean.
Bostonist would take this episode of Vendetta and Gunn over Miami Vice any day. They've fallen back in love with Allston, and might just have a crush on the subway knitter on top of that. But local newscasters are trying to steal Bostonist's heart with some mechanical bull riding that may not quite be up to sexy snuff.

And last but not least, DCist guided its readers through the explosion of new local businesses on 18th Street NW, wondered what the arrival of paper copies of The Onion would mean for the local media landscape, scolded the Washington Wizards for having ugly fan apparel for women, and reviewed a recent monster truck rally.

That's the Washington Wizards, not the Golden State Warriors.

Sorry.

This season so far has been just about like every other last place Warriors season- the sporadic win and hope-inducing streak of well played games sandwhiched between losses. Lots of losses. Lots of never in it, never showed up, never making the big play losses. It's been the kind of season where the beat writer for the Chron, either out of hopefulness or boredom, has taken to writing headlines like "Warriors Outplay Opponents, Lose by 10" or "New Lineup on a Roll, Don't Get Blown Out." On the other hand, the Warriors did beat Western Conference studs Seattle right before the All-Star break, a sign of either marked improvement or the Sonics being more concerned about which rap star to chill with during the break.
