Gunman Opens Fire at Holocaust Museum in Washington DC

Scores of police are on the scene at the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC after shots were fired inside the complex. According to early reports, two people were hit. A rifle might have been used as well. An eyewitness account claims that a security guard was "down and bleeding on the floor." San Francisco's Holocaust memorials, as many of you recall, also have trouble keeping chaos at bay. The gunman was shot and arrested. DCist has more on the story.

D.C. Council Votes to Recognize Other States' Same-Sex Marriages

Civil rights have really taken center stage today, yes? First, Vermont legalized gay marriage after Governor Jim Douglas vetoed it on Monday. (An aside: will there be some sort of Ben & Jerry's party today in the Castro?) Then, just this afternoon, Washington D.C. says it will recognize same-sex marriage from other states. There aren't too many doubleheaders in baseball anymore, and most of them are split admission, so you gotta have two tickets, one for each game. Today, though, it's just like old times and you can watch two games for the price of one at 24 Willie Mays Plaza. Los Gigantes and Les Expos are playing their regularly scheduled game today as well as a makeup of one that was rained out in Puerto Rico in May, and since the Giants couldn't really get away with charging admission for what was supposed to be a road game, it's all on one ticket.
