With only a few days left before the Very Special Election, the Governor hit the campaign trail hoping for one of those idyllic campaign weekends where all the crowds are friendly, the energy crackling, and the pictures good. So he hopped on a bus, got a visit from everybody’s favorite Republican, John McCain, and spoke to reporters about how much he was looking forward to getting everyone in the state together to fix the state’s problems.
And what did he get for his troubles?
On Saturday, at a rally in San Diego, Warren Beatty and his wife, Annette Bening tried to crash one of his rallies, along with a crowd of protestors. They had been trailing the Governor on their own Magical Mystery Bus, the "Truth Squad Bus" and followed the Governor to a rally being held at an airplane hangar in San Diego. When they tried to get in, they were given the "sorry, closed party" by a hastily assembled squad of the Governor's aides who told Beatty that he wasn't allowed into the rally because he wasn't on the list to get in. Just change political rally to Koi and it's just like Paris and Nicole. Which is kind of scary when you think about it because the way things are going, SFist will someday be writing about Lindsey Lohan leading a protest against Governor Wilmer Valderrama.
SchwartzenWatcher Special Edition: Warren Can't Wait
SchwarzenWatcher Reads the Gossip Pages
We have the latest and hottest political news today, coming to you from the best place to get the hottest California political news, the gossip pages. Which raises this interesting question: for those of us who read celebrity news to get away from politics, where do we go when politics become part of the gossip pages? And will all of this mean that we should start watching "Extra!" to get the lastest news on the Plame indictments? Anyways, in Monday's edition of the Examiner’s "The Scoop," there is a blurb about Entertainment Weekly saying that Warren Beatty "has been telling anyone who will listen that he plans to unseat Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger." And Cindy Adams writes in her Page Six column in the New York Post that the Governator is so pissed about the President poaching off his Republican money men, which he did last week and which the Governor was once again a very conspicuous no show, that he basically told the White House off and is threatening to become a Democrat over the whole thing.
Who Reads Yesterdays Papers?
>-Warren Beatty gave a speech in front of a Nurse's organization and lit into the Governator, accusing him of running a government "by show, by spin, by cosmetics and photos ops." Beatty wouldn't say if he intended to run in 2006, but people just don’t talk in front of nurses' organizations because they have nothing else better to do. In response, a flunky for the Governor responded: "we don't care that much about Warren Beatty, and based on his ticket sales from the past generation, I doubt anyone else does either." We think nothing sums up the current state of state politics like two candidates sniping at each other over box office receipts.
SchwarzenWatcher: Commencemental
While we're sure that Warren Beatty got his share of cheers and jeers at Cal's commencement speech, thanks to media reports, we know that Schwarzenegger's recent speech at alma mater Santa Monica College received decidedly more jeers than cheers:
Bulworth in Ought-Six?
Warren Beatty gave the commencement speech to the University of California class of 2005, wearing academic robes and going after Governor Schwarzenegger in what may be an opening salvo in Beatty's rumored campaign. Current front runners in the race for the Democratic nomination include State Treasurer Phil Angelides and fellow Hollywood millionaire Rob Reiner, after Attorney General Bill Lockyer threw in the towel.
