Not that we have any right to complain (it's been over five years since we last blacked out at this fine music venue), but Polk Street rock 'n' roll/hustler staple Kimo's (1351 Polk) is on the market, and its future doesn't look good.

According to reports, "The 34-year-old club, which has hosted shows by the likes of Metallica, as well as countless local bands, is in the process of being sold. And the current owners of Kimo's expect that it won't remain a home for live local music in the hands of its new owners, who will likely take possession in January."

Co-owner Tony Malson goes on to point out, "my gut feeling is that they're going to make it into a cocktail lounge."

Sad. We sure hope it doesn't turn into yet another Lush Lounge, littered with horrible people on Friday and Saturday nights. OK, fine. Lush Lounge is a great bar. It is. It's simply too crowded on weekends with people who need a good lashing. Anyway, fingers crossed for Kimo's.

The Eagle, a historic and much-admired SOMA venue, is up for sale. SFist called the famous leather/bear/indie-rock/gay/straight-ish/everything-that-is-superb-about-SOMA spot for confirmation.

"Yep, the place is for sale," the bartender told us.

Located at 398 12th Street, just at the corner Harrison, the Eagle's most popular weeklies include Thursday Night Live (where local talent like Pansy Division, the Cock-T's, and Death Sentence: Panda have stomped the floorboards) and Sunday's Beer Bust, which developed a cult-like following of the last decade.

In 2008, the bar made headlines when the bouncer of nearby Holy Cow was shot and killed outside the bar.

We can only hope the new owners keep the Eagle's slightly dingy, albeit comfortable and friendly, aesthetic in tact. We ask all SOMA denizens to check out the place before the new owners, whomever they may end up being, take over the leather reigns of this cherished institution.

This right here is a task comparable only to hauling a powerful ring to the fires of Mordor. What are we talking about? A new site called Every Bar In San Francisco, which plans on visiting every bar in San Francisco for at least one drink. Check it:

After years of hearing that San Francisco allegedly has more bars per capita than any other U.S. city, I have decided to see if one person can actually drink at every bar in the City. I’m going neighborhood by neighborhood, skipping only wine bars and restaurants, and hopefully having some amazing booze fueled adventures on the way.

This is the kind of new year's resolution we enjoy.

EBISF dives right in with the Tenderloin (arguably the best neighborhood in SF in which to imbibe, they define the hood as bordered by Geary on the North, Van Ness on the West, Market on the South, and Powell on the East.) They will, fortunately, skip bars that charges a cover, have a dance floor or a DJ lounge, and "doesn’t sell hard liquor, or expects one to order food."

As of January 3, they've had drinks from Ha-Ra, Nite Cap, Koko's pass through their liver. Be sure to check out this mammoth project. Godspeed, fellow drinker.

Shocking update: Peat Montesquieu and Glen Robespierre also planned on doing something similar with this site, but it slowed down in October.

Map du Jour: Concert Info Now in Google Maps

<iframe width="425" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&geocode=&ie=UTF8&mrt=kmlkmz&q=http:%2F%2Fwww.ban...

SF News

concerts

Google

maps

music

venues

Brock Keeling

These venues, which have already received public financing during the Fillmore's redevelopment, is asking the city of San Francisco for a total of $2.4 million in new loans.

Here's a tip, 1300 On Fillmore, Yoshi's, and Rasselas: stop playing jazz. It's a dead genre. At best it lives on in smooth form. Yes, we know most of you seduced first-year college students with that black and white Miles Davis poster tacked onto your dorm room wall. Or you took a noted class in jazz back at the alma mater. Or you read some thought-provoking article in the New York Times about jazz's critical place in blah blah wank. But jazz? Is dead.

Really, we listen to Sondheim and Spears, and even we know, save for a the occasional Biscuits & Blues, jazz is not a moneymaker for SF venues. It's just not. And probably won't be.

Hire an event planner/club promoter or four -- hell, even eight will come to less than $2.4 million -- and throw a few decent club nights before you start dipping in the family funds.

Screw You Guys, I'm Going Home

We love Gridskipper's edge as of late.
In all fairness, you need to visit good ol' Gridie to find out just who made the top four. (Also, regarding the number-one spot, we've never visited the sorta chic spot but have heard mixed reviews. Is it really that bad, clientele-wise? Jesus. We remove ourselves from the nightlife scene for a scant four months, and our scenester knowledge is shot to hell. Sad.)

We can't think of any local establishments' crowds that deserve our scorn. On the contrary, the scenes at such venues as Michael Gouddou's Gallery Lounge and Da Da, the newly relocated Metro in the Castro, and the bar at the St. Regis have won us over tenfold. (Really, all excellent choices for drinking and chatting as far as we're concerned.) Oddly enough, we here at SFist cannot think of one particular bar crowd to bitch about. Frightening.

Just where will you never step foot in again because of the scene?

I Read the Earth Moved

Why is it that when people do readings, they get that weird This-American-Life tone in their voice?
