A new study from UCSF shows that males whose sexual advances are rejected by the fairer sex were "driven to excessive alcohol consumption, drinking far more than comparable, sexually satisfied" males. Victim In Yesterday's Octavia & Oak Crash Identified; UCSF Shuttle Bus Driver May Have Run Red Light

The single fatality in yesterday's early morning collision at Octavia and Oak has been identified as 52-year-old UCSF professor Dr. Kevin Mack, a psychiatrist, who was on his way to work. Mack was ejected from the UCSF shuttle bus that was involved in the crash and landed underneath the big-rig vehicle transport. He was pronounced dead at the scene. more ›

The 65-year-old woman who died after a UCSF shuttle bus struck her at Geary and Leavenworth on Wednesday has been identified Nu Ha Dam. The Chronicle notes: "Dam was pronounced dead at the scene. She lived in an apartment in the 300 block of Leavenworth, two blocks from the accident." more ›

UCSF Shuttle Bus Kills Pedestrian

On Wednesday at Geary and Leavenworth, a UCSF shuttle bus hit and killed a 65-year-old woman crossing the street. "The 12:27 p.m. accident occurred as the bus was headed north on Leavenworth and turned left onto Geary, hitting the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene," reports the Chronicle. "Police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said the victim, whose identity was not released, was crossing Geary heading south on Leavenworth at the time of the accident." more ›

California Health Department Issues Penality to UCSF

The California Department of Public Health announced today that 13 California hospitals were slammed with "administrative penalties of $25,000 per violation" due to said hospitals failed to comply with licensing requirements that caused serious injury or death to patients. According to a CDPH report, the University of California, San Francisco Medical Centerwas fined after "[t]he hospital failed to ensure the safety of a patient by not establishing a safe and effective system for the administration of high-risk medications. This is the facility’s second administrative penalty." Other hospitals penalized were John Muir Medical Center in Concord (who "failed to follow its own policies and procedures for restraining a patient for radiological exams") and the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance (where a patient had to "undergo a second surgery to remove a retained foreign object," resulting in their death). more ›

UCSF Researcher/Poisoner Liu Freed from Jail

Cover your cups of coffee and tea. Ben Chun Liu, the UCSF urology researcher who allegedly poisoned his colleague because he was "stressed," is free today. A San Francisco judge ordered him free while lab tests continue. Liu is awaiting trial for attempting to murder his coworker, Mei Cao, 44, by adding a hint of ethidium bromide into her drinking cup at her work station. He must return to court on December 18. more ›

UC Workers On Strike

UC workers, ranging from janitors to food service workers, walked off the job this morning at all University of California campuses and hospitals. According to CBS 5, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Local 3299 guys walked off the job this morning after the UC offered workers a pithy, disagreeable hourly wage increase from $10.28 to $11.50 to $12. Then, the AFSCME Local 3299 declared it was "calling a strike on behalf of the 8,000 service workers it represents" at least until Friday. This will greatly affect UCSF hospitals and UCB campuses, the latter of which is infamous for a student body that lacks proper hygiene and regular bathing rituals.
