The Chicago Tribune is, in 2008, finally getting around to dealing with the glorious, frustrating, and all-knowing voice of the commenter. This week the Tribune shut down their comment boards on all of their political news stories. What's more, the publication also yanked the Commenter's voice on a recent op-ed piece about Muslims and another story about Illinois Governor Rod R. Blagojevich. Why? Bill Adee, associate managing editor who also oversees the online operations, "ordered the suspension of comments on politics after he noticed the number of writers unfairly trashing the candidates." But more likely, the Tribune's writers and editors are growing frustrated with seeing their pearls of journalistic wisdom adorn racist, tangential, salacious rants and lies.

Stuff that SFist, and surely our sister site, Chicagoist, adores.

Anyway, we're surprised at this sudden comment thread removal; SFGate has commenters who spew forth entertaining zaniness and sometimes regrettable word choice, comments that the Tribune can't even begin to dream about. Thankfully, the Gate has kept that voice in tact for further debate and our entertainment.

The food section round up is back. We gobble the various food sections up each Wednesday. But first: ready to "dine and go to heaven" in San Francisco? We are! Dine About Town is here, and prix fixe dining heaven costs $21.95 for lunch and $31.95 for dinner. Participating restaurants include: A16, B44, Cafe de la Presse, La Provence and others. This heaven won't qualify as a cheap eat, but it's presumably cheaper than what you may normally pay at these spots. Check availability; not all restaurants offer lunch and dinner special pricing.

Here are our favorite food section nibbles from today's offerings.

Another Train Hits Another Man On Another Cell

Similar to the fatal accident that happened in November, another pedestrian -- engrossed in a phone call, ignorant as to what was happening around him -- was stuck and killed by a train in San Leandro. According to the Chronicle, it seems that:

The victim, a man who was not immediately identified, was struck at 12:30 p.m. by a northbound Capitol Corridor train at the Alvarado Street crossing, about 8 miles south of the Oakland station, Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said.

The Oakland Tribune says that San Leandro police officers spotted the man earlier in the day sporting a "multicolor hat with spider-like arms." Like a...we have no idea what that looks like. But still, another very depressing accident. Read more about it here and here.

Update: Fatal Bay Bridge Accident Inconveniences Westbound Traffic

Update: all lanes are now open. It seems that "a box truck, from a business called 'Diet to Go'...drove directly into the back of the big rig," killing the box truck driver. Very sad. Sigh.

According to SFGate, "three lanes of the upper deck of the Bay Bridge are blocked by a fatal accident, the California Highway Patrol says."

Did you hear that? How awful. Just terrible. Three whole lanes of traffic have closed down! Unbelievable.

Anyway, after the deadly accident happened around 1:15 p.m. this afternoon, the number 3, 4 and 5 lanes have closed east of Yerba Buena Island, according to the Oakland Tribune. We'll update with info on the accident victim, accident when we know more.

PS, since we don't drive (well) and rarely visit the other side using the bridge, are drivers really speeding that fast on the bridge to cause so many fatalities?

HIV/AIDS Group to Score Your Black Muslim Bakery Property

Your Black Muslim Bakery -- the prominent and notorious Oakland setting featured in many a Chauncey Bailey story -- will probably be sold today to Vital Life Services, a nondenominational "nonprofit serving people living with HIV/AIDS and other critical illnesses," founded in 1987.

The high bidder NCK LLC, a limited liability corporation, plans on buying the space, then turning it over to VLS. (Aw.) The property was also sought after by several other interested buyers, such as East Oakland deli proprietor Won Chul Lee, and Paulette Arbuckle, a "longtime resident of the neighborhood near the bakery."

According to the Oakland Tribune, the bakery "spun out of control during [the Bey family] turmoil, leading Yusuf Bey IV to file for Chapter 11 protection late last year." Today's hearing on the controversial baked-goods-and-so-much-more establishment will rule on the purchase of the "troubled property," most likely going to VLS in the end. (Goodbye, tofu burgers and fish sandwiches! We hardly knew ye.)
