We're excited for this year's lineup at Treasure Island and the best part about the festival compared to our flagship fest in Golden Gate Park is that it requires zero compromise when it comes to which bands festivalgoers want to check out. (Pro-tip: Stand near the middle of the field, when an act wraps up on the Bridge Stage, just turn around and voilà: you're now standing at the Tunnel Stage.)

Treasure Island Music Festival 2011 Lineup Announced
The Treasure Island Music Festival returns to the eponymous island again this fall for an impressive two-day lineup of electronic and rock music on October 15th and 16th. Saturday, which tends to lean towards the electronic/techno side, brings in dance-y headliners Cut Copy and Chromeo, while Sunday's more rock-focused lineup gives Death Cab for Cutie top of the billing. Rounding out Saturday's supporting acts are Empire of the Sun (a standout act at last year's Outside Lands), math-rockers Battles, a reunion set from electropunks Death From Above 1979 (!), Aloe Blacc, Flying Lotus, Yacht and Geographer. Local favorites Thee Oh Sees and Weekend join Stephen Malkmus, The Hold Steady, Beach House and Explosions in the Sky to round out the Sunday lineup.
Treasure Island Music Fest Lineup Announced, Includes LCD Soundsystem, Belle & Sebastian
The lineup for this year's Treasure Island Music Fest was just announced, and once again it looks pretty good! This cozy little fest in the middle of the bay has been touted by many as extremely "well organized," but we think what makes it so special and swell is that there are only two stages, they're right next to each other, and the acts don't overlap. It makes for some very calm, and not so exhausting concert-going, especially for those of us no longer in our twenties.

Treasure Island Music Fest '09: A Gallery - UPDATED
Saturday was sunny and electronic; Sunday was chilly and leaned more toward back-to-basics rock. Also thrown in was some gypsy music, hip-hop, and whatever you want to call this new rock operetta thing The Decemberists can't keep themselves from playing, as well as several cupcake hovercrafts, and a steampunk sideshow with old-timey games hosted by Mister Gnogiurzauchshoff's Traveling Midway of Curiosities and Delights. And both days sold out! Weather shifts aside, the Treasure Island Music Fest was once again the swellest and most human-scaled festival we've ever been to -- and as Thao, she of the Get Down Stay Down, put it, it's simply "the bestival."
Afternoon Palate Cleanser: "Sleepyhead" by Passion Pit
NYC-based band The Walkmen will be playing at 6:20 p.m. on Sunday of the Treasure Island Music Fest (see our preview here), and this rather dark song, "On the Water," is off their 2008 release "You and Me," and they are currently working on their sixth studio album. The video was directed by Nir Ben Jacob.
Treasure Island Music Fest: A Preview
It's the music fest that all the hip kids and true indie and indie-ish music fans have been waiting all year for, and it's finally here. The two-day long Treasure Island Music Festival kicks off on Saturday, and the line-up is pretty swell -- with the likes of Passion Pit, The Streets, Girl Talk, Brazilian Girls and MGMT on Saturday; and Grizzly Bear, Beirut, The Decemberists, The Walkmen, Yo La Tengo, and The Flaming Lips on Sunday. ALSO, the 12-2pm slots both days are filled with fun local acts like Murs, The Limousines, Crown City Rockers, Sleepy Sun, and Thao with the Get Down Stay Down, so show up early and represent.
Afternoon Palate Cleanser: Thao With the Get Down Stay Down
One of the local acts we're most looking forward to seeing at this weekend's Treasure Island Music Festival (one-day and two-day passes still available!) is Thao with the Get Down Stay Down. They're playing on Sunday at 1:15 p.m., and know this fest that should be a nice, mellow time to plop down your blanket and enjoy the music before the whole crowd pour over the bridge. This cute video for 2008's "Bag of Hammers," has some nice shots of SF, and the song reminds us a bit of Rickie Lee Jones, no?
Treasure Island Treasure Hunt in the Mission on October 1st
The Bay Bridged and the Treasure Island Music Festival are gearing up for next month's big event with a really fun-sounding treasure hunt that will take place in the Mission next Thursday, October 1st. Festival-themed prizes include VIP passes, General Admission passes, gift packs, and more.

Treasure Island Music Festival Lineup Announced
Billed as the West Coast's "most anticipated boutique music festival," the Treasure Island Music Festival line-up was just unveiled. October's two-day concert will feature the following bands for your aural pleasure.
When The Lights Go Down In The City
There are no less than three fantastic music festivals all taking place over the weekend of September 14-16. What gives? And how do we choose? Since we live in the bay area, perhaps our decision has been made for us: we're heading to the inaugural Treasure Island Music Festival presented by the fine folks at Noise Pop and Another Planet. The two day festival features 14 bands each day on two stages with mostly hip hop and electronica on Saturday (Theivery Corporation, DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist, M.I.A.) and a great lineup of indie rock on Sunday (Modest Mouse, Built To Spill, Clap Your Hands). And it all takes place on Treasure Island, that scrap of land you've seen a thousand times but likely have never set foot on. Getting there is sure to be an adventure! Check out the full lineup and get your tickets. We've got a pair of tickets for one lucky winner to go to one day of the Treasure Island Music Festival. (We're not sure which date yet but will update this post as soon as we hear back from our contact! But both days are really good so you can't go wrong. Contest ends 8/22; winner will be notified via email.)
Day Around The Bay
--Have you checked out the footage (above, 4:34) of someone driving their Prius into the N Judah tunnel? The derisive laughter as the driver sheepishly gets out of the car is ) is genius. (We don't know how to get rid of those white edges on that YouTube screen.) [N Judah Chronicles.]
