Watch Teenage Girl's Terrible Anti-Transgender Rant About Seven-Year-Old In Girl Scouts

Watch Teenage Girl's Terrible Anti-Transgender Rant About Seven-Year-Old In Girl Scouts

Teenagers canb be horrid creatures. You know this already. In addition to being B.O.-laced, hormone-filled beasts, many of them lack clarity and independent thought. Exhibit D-: this 14-year-old girl from California leaping on the hatemongering bandwagon with this depressing video calling for Americans to boycott Girl Scout Cookies. Why does she want you to shun Girl Scout Cookies? Because seven-year-old Bobby Montoya, who identifies as a girl, wanted to join his local Girl Scouts chapter. Even though Montoya didn't join the troupe, "the decision to allow him to do so instantly infuriated some conservative troupes, who called the move 'extremely confusing' and an 'almost dangerous situation.' " Thus, the boycott. more ›

Today's Trans March Honors Compton's Cafeteria Riot

Today's Trans March Honors Compton's Cafeteria Riot

This afternoon's Trans March starts at 3:30 in heavily segregated Dolores Park. This year's annual transgender march should take on an even feistier tone. On Thursday, a San Francisco Superior Court Judge dismissed felony hate crime charges brought against two men accused of assaulting a 20-year-old transgender woman at the 16th and Mission BART Plaza back in April. (District Attorney Gascón, we should point out, was "extremely disappointed"... more ›

Hate Crime Charges Dismissed in Attack on Transgender Woman

A San Francisco Superior Court Judge has dismissed the felony hate crime charges brought against two men accused of assaulting a 20-year-old transgender woman at the 16th and Mission BART Plaza back in April. The witness who told reporters she heard one of the fleeing assailants say, "Oh, I hate men dressed up as women", delivered the same testimony before the court during a preliminary hearing yesterday, but Judge Bruce Chan ruled that two suspects will only stand trial for assault, second-degree robbery and violating the victim's civil rights reports KTVU. District Attorney Gascón, who disagreed with the judge's ruling, also gathered reporters for a brief conference this morning. more ›

Judge Orders Library of Congress to Pay Transsexual $500,000

Judge Orders Library of Congress to Pay Transsexual $500,000

A federal judge ordered the Library of Congress to pay $500,000 to former Army Special Forces Commander Diane Schroer (née David Schroer) on Tuesday. Why? Well, after landing a terrorism analyst gig while she was still a man, the job was rescinded after Schroer told a library official that she was having sexual reassignment surgery to switch gender. This, to which many SFist readers can attest, is a problem transgendered folk face on a regular basis. "If [transgendered people] are fortunate enough to get something, it's well below their capabilities. It's not just about money, it's about knowing you are a valuable person," Schroer said after the settlement. After ruling in her favor in September, U.S. District Judge James Robertson wrote, "She experienced the emotional pain and suffering of losing her dream job merely because she was a transsexual," going on to point out, "She was well qualified for the job." more ›

Transgender Day of Remembrance

Transgender Day of Remembrance

Sparked by the unsolved 1998 murder of Rita Hester, the Transgender Day of Remembrance has grown from a little candlelight vigil on the streets of San Francisco to a worldwide memorial in major cities across the world. This Thursday marks the 10-year anniversary of the Transgender Day of Remembrance. So, celebrate local transgenders of note (such as Veronica Klaus, Bambi Lake, and a host of others) as well as other self-identified transsexuals, crossdressers, trannies, drag queens, or otherwise gender-variants. (At the LGBT synagogue Congregation Shaar Zahev, there will be a Transgender Remembrance Shabbat at 7:30pm in Friday, November 21.) more ›

The Left OUT Party: A Genderful Gayla

The Left OUT Party: A Genderful Gayla

There will be a colorful and joyous skirmish over at the Human Rights Campaign dinner happening in San Francisco tomorrow n ight. Why? Well, it seems the largest (and allegedly inclusive) "lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) lobbying group and political action committee" has waffled time and time again with transgenders and the federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) - "which should include protections for gender identity as well as sexual orientation" - so local groups plan on responding this outside their very exclusive annual gala. more ›
