What with all of the media attention this summertime concert has received as of late, you would assume Miley Cyrus (the Madeleine Elster/Judy Barton narrative of our time) was booked to "sing" at Golden Gate Park. Alas, she is not. Your consolation prize? Radiohead, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, and Jack Johnson are lined up for the debut of the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival, happening August 22-24. Ticket prices, activities, other performers,......

Whitest Kids U Know: In addition to winning the Best Sketch award at the 2006 Aspen Comedy Festival and being crowned one of "10 Comics to Watch" by Variety, these guys are, apparently, both very funny and very pasty. They're also a part of SF Sketchfest. (Unfamiliar with these Kids? Check them out here and here.) WKUK perform twice tonight at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. at the Eureka Theatre; $20. Heavy Petty: How......

With over 70 shows since July 1st, MiGGs deserves a break but not until they play one last show in San Francisco. Featured on Monday in "This Week in Le Rock" MiGGs blend an alt/rock, emo, pop and classic rock sound to perfection. They are returning to Cafe du Nord this Saturday night before they take a month off to put the finishing touches of their newest album, Unraveled (which we'll be listening to at......

-- The A’s: Oakland play at home against the Baltimore Orioles. But that doesn’t mean that you still can’t have a good time. Vin Sol & Morse Code, the Lovemakers (DJ set), Codebreaker, and Disco Nat make special guest appearances, and resident DJ Richie Panic and MC......

You know we'd never say Chris Daly backed down from a fight, especially not in the title of a post! However, we did just get an email from the Gavin Newsom 2008 people noting that the Board of Supes Budget Committee meeting scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled. That was the meeting that was supposed to be the proxy mayoral race over Daly and Newsom's competing visions of the city (i.e., whether we were......

We've said this before, but one of our favorite radio bits on local radio is KFOG's Hits From Hell which Dave Morey busts out every Friday the 13th. Hey, you can only hear Melissa Etheridge so many times. Unfortunately, we got stuck doing other things today, but thanks to the handy-dandy KFOG web site, we got the listing of today's show, only to see that it was the opposite of Hits From Hell, more like "Lucky Hits." Gosh darnit-- we were totally dying for some "We Are the World" or "You Light Up My Life." ...

It's not too early to make plans for Halloween weekend, and if you want to make this year especially memorable, hop a plane to Las Vegas for the Vegoose Music Festival. It's an impressive lineup of tons of bands in one place: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Mars Volta, The Raconteurs, Cat Power and the Memphis Rhythm Band (we'll see about that), Gomez, Fiona Apple, Jenny Lewis, BRMC, and a bunch of those jammy/jazzy......
