SFist Tonight
SFist Tonight - Sketchfest Edition
Before hitting the sundry of top-notch hilarity littering San Francisco during the 7th Annual SF Sketchfest - i.e., the sad clowns making funny - be sure to stop by tonight's opening party. No really, it's well worth the price of admission. And then some. They have Aimee Mann, Kristen Schaal (aka the girl from Flight of the Conchords), Paul F. Tompkins, Todd Barry, Rhys Darby, and DJs Skip & Shindog on-hand to perform. Plus, you'll have the chance to get wasted near other comedic types. And as we all know, alcoholism runs wild within the bloodstreams of stand-up comedians. Amateur night for substance abusers and comics this is not.
Todd Barry Back in San Francisco
Friend of the 'ists Todd Barry is back for another stand up stint here in SF as part of a west coast tour. Last time we saw the show, we fell in love with his free form style, audience-participation antics and snotty mien (it's a schtick, people, he's actually quite nice). He'll be performing with Mississippi native and southland resident Tig Notaro, who's officially endorsed by SFist comedy crush Sarah Silverman, so we're going to go out on a limb and see she's funny (judge for yourself and watch a clip [Windows Media]).
The shows are at the Punchline starting tonight at 8pm and running through Saturday. You can buy tickets online for $10 (plus evil TicketMaster handling fees), and the club has a two drink minimum. You may well catch this SFist laughing so hard they lose control of their bladder.
Stand Up Guys
Okay, we see why Gothamist loves Todd Barry. But local boys Ryan Stout and Jim Short made good last night, too. If you haven't been to the Purple Onion yet, it really is a great experience. We went for a special night of Asian-American comedians in May who were absolutely hilarious, and fell in love with the brick-walled, plush-boothed underground funnyplace. We'd think it were a little toooo themey if it wasn't so unpretentious and didn't have the estimable history that it does.
Todd Barry at the Purple Onion
One of Gothamist's favorite comedians, Todd Barry, will be performing six shows starting tonight at eight at the Purple Onion and running through Sunday. Who is Todd Barry? Well, find out for yourself by reading the interview he did with Gothamist (where, to the world's chagrin, he declined to answer the question "Imagine prostitutes gave receipts. Imagine you go to prostitutes. What do you think your receipt would have on it?").
