Fascist Imperial Dogs 1 - Tree Loving Hippies 0- After all that protesting and dancing and carrot juice drinking, the Berkeley City Council chickened out and said they erred in passing that January resolution that disinvited a Marine recruiting station and called them "unwelcome intruders." In that resolution, they also allowed Code Pink permission to blast all sorts of things at the station, gave them a designated parking space in front of it, and permission to protest on Wednesdays from noon to 4 p.m. Why Wednesday? Because it’s Hump Day! They did, however, refuse to issue an apology and used part of their mea culpa to lash out at the Bush administration and the war. This didn't satisfy some conservatives as Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina introduced the "Semper Fi Act" which would redirect money to UC Berkeley and give it to the Southern Heritage Coalition so they can sew more flags with the Confederate flag in them....

We're heading to the Brava Theater Center (2789 24th Street) for the screening of Iraq For Sale: The War Profiteers, a benefit for The 2006 CounterCorp Anti-Corporate Film Festival. Director Robert Greenwald (Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price) "examines what happens to everyday Americans — and Iraqis — when corporations go to war, revealing the inside story of the soldiers, truck drivers, widows, and children whose lives have been changed forever as a result......

What's the plan?
The War-bloons have basically been treading water for the last couple of months, and like a small-time sucker playing conservative bets at the $5 blackjack tables in Reno, the house odds are starting to take their toll. Yet as their won-loss record sinks further into the red and the playoff dream shrivels up like Adonal Foyle's points per game average, Head Veep Chris Mullett can only watch as opportunities like the NBA trading deadline slip past like Brad Miller blowing by Troy Murphy unabated to the hoop....

For the Warriors, the future is a Rubik's Cube.
Remember that annoying symbol of grade-school geekdom? That's what the War-whirls are facing. To solve the Cube, one must first get an entire face (side) all one color. To progress any further though, one must be willing to break up that initial face in order to correctly position all the Cube's individual tiles for completion. It's tough, because breaking it up
seems like a step backward, but with the Cube, as with life, sometimes you have to take a step back to be able to take three steps forward. It takes commitment and vision.

The Fall TV season has officially begun, and we've been programming our TiVos and setting Season Pass priorities with the research and concentration usually reserved for complex algebraic equations (a subject which we admittedly flunked in high school). Needless to say, we're both parts excited and exhausted, so let's just get started with our look at some of the week's premieres. (Luckily, Sunday has already passed, and we're hoping you overlooked the series premiere......

There are two great things about getting to compile this column -- one is the sense of camaraderie and sharing we get when our wonderful SFist colleagues or readers recommend, refer, or concurrently read (Christine, that's you) books from their online reserve list. There are so many books we've read only because we've checked them out, borrowed them, or purchased them from one of our fine local independent bookstores at the behest of a......
