We're starting to run out of ways to introduce these stories about the murder count in SF, so we're going with a clip of "Miss Murder" by AFI, above. So here's the latest: Two more bodies were found today. One person was found shot to death in the head around 9:30 last night near Monster Park, and this morning, a woman walking in Golden Gate Park saw a dead body in a grove of......

--The Golden Gate Bridge opened 70 years ago today! The Golden Gate Bridge RULES. --Hilarious cartoons of vacations gone awry by Don Asmussen. (Even more in the print edition!) --M&R admit that they got Chris Daly's outfit wrong in their item about him busting in on Newsom's meeting last week. Chris magnanimously gives them a quote in response that he's growing a beard in tribute to Baron Davis. (M&R also have some more gossip......

Following up on our past posts on problems with Ocean Beach bonfires, SFist reader Owen has this to say (we added the links): The Golden Gate National Recreation Area is considering a total ban on bonfires at Ocean Beach. They spent approximately $90,000 last year cleaning up after beach fires and responding to law enforcement calls relating to them; neighbors and beach visitors have complained about hazardous litter (nails, glass, etc) on the beach,......

Patrick Rodriguez makes an argument for saving Stan "Tookie" Williams -- those Berkeley Republicans are always throwing curveballs. Sasha over at Left in SF wonders if the Residential Builders Association and the Bay Guardian can ever get along. Kimo Crossman at Webnetic points out why you should care about the SF citywide wifi process, and suggests you drop by the Board of Supervisors to argue for more public involvement. And MuniWireless posts the MetroFi......

Arlene Ackerman's BFF Wade Randlett and SFSOS are hosting the "San Francisco Homeownership Summit" [PDF] tonight. Panels include "How to Protect Yourself from the Board of Supervisors," and "Why Thurgood Marshall's Legacy is Hurting The Children." Okay, we made that last one up. [via The Golden Gate] Speaking of the children, take your little tots to see the original Gene Wilder "Willy Wonka", a presentation of the "Potrero Hill Walk-in Movies" series. Rhode Island......

Okay, this is really getting ridiculous. First, they told us the Bay Bridge is going to be ugly and expensive. Then they said they'd raise bus fares. Then they said they'd raise parking fees. And now they're going to raise the Golden Gate Bridge toll to six dollars???
The Golden Gate Transit District, which runs the Golden Gate Bridge, says that while raising the toll to five dollars last year has helped somewhat in reducing its $454 million deficit, it hasn't helped enough. So the transit board is proposing raising the toll by one more dollar by next July. Fastrak-ers will go from $4 to $4.50, but that will ultimately go up to $5 by 2008. Bus and ferry service will increase too. And don't think you'll get off easy by walking to Sausalito either -- the transit district is also considering charging a toll for pedestrians and bikers too. Aw, come on, guys!
And anyways, how does a bridge run up a $450 million deficit in the first place? Bad dot.com investments?
Picture of the Golden Gate Bridge dissolving due to evil solar microrays from the movie The Core. The Golden Gate Transit District probably charged the sun $5 for the rays.
