Yet another pedestrian hit by yet another MUNI bus in the Richmond -- this time, the 1 California at 22nd Ave. Plus, Caltrain hit a car this morning too.

Oh man -- first the Arlene lawsuit, now this! It's been a fascinating news-dump Friday, hasn't it?

Before we kick things off, we should give a big shoutout to SFist Sarah L, who generously stepped in to read the weeklies for us while we were away. Thanks, SFist Sarah L! She rocked it so hard we're going to start alternating weeks for weekly-reading from here on out.

It looks like the Chronicle's two BALCO reporters, Mark Fainaru-Wada and Lance Williams, will not be joining Josh Wolf in prison as they're no longer on the hook. The main reason being the source who they were protecting finally came forward to admit that that he was the leak. The person in question was the lawyer for Victor Conte and BALCO vice president James Valente, Troy Ellerman. Ellerman is being charged for handing court transcripts over to Fainaru-Wade and Wiliams. In a perfectly oily move that gives lawyers the reputation they have (sorry SFist Rita!), Ellerman was busy complaining to the judge about leaks all the while being the one who was leaking. Of course, it could have all been his master plan. After all, who would suspect the guy complaining the most about leaks?

Richmond_Amtrak-i.jpg We're not sure if we should be scared or skeptical here, folks -- first, the alleged terror cell in Lodi (terror cell! Terror! But the administration's record? Skeptical!) and now, Amtrak service and the Richmond-SF BART line have been shut down. So a man of Middle Eastern descent got on the Amtrak this morning in Sacto, going to Martinez. When he missed his stop, the conductor came by at the Richmond stop to let him know, and found him disoriented, distracted, and chanting in a foreign language. He became angry, identified himself as a Muslim and said, "The train is going to fall into the sea, the train is going to go away." The conductors did a search of the train and found four mysterious packages, one by the angry man's seat. The man was taken away by the Richmond PD, and the Walnut Creek bomb squad is "assessing its options" with the packages. Amtrak found that the man had another ticket going all the way to So Cal. So -- scared or skeptical? We're just going to rock back and forth in a liberal-who's-been-mugged dither of self-doubt now, thanks for asking. To all those people out there who love nothing more than posting inflammatory comments on message boards, be careful cause you never know if the FBI might find out. Especially if you post away on AOL. Case in point is local San Francisco woman, Dera Marie Jones, who went on an AOL message board recently and typed these words about Michael Schiavo, ex-husband of Terri: "If she dies I will kill Michael Schiavo and the judge. This for real!" Awoops. And totally been done.

fonghayeswhite.jpgTune into KALW 91.7 next Tuesday at 1 p.m. to hear San Francisco's first female fire chief and first female police chief (pictured at left) speaking with SFist political reporter crush Adriel Hampton through the Commonwealth Club Broadcasts series (or stream it live now). Slippery criminals! A bank robbery suspect waiting to be interviewed by the FBI pried open a screen in the Federal Building in Oakland and then casually walked out past the U.S. Marshals office and out of custody. We hope he was whistling as he did it. The FBI re-caught the guy at the San Leandro BART station. And the Los Gatos police have made an arrest for murder in a missing persons case that's been unsolved for three years. The victim had gone out drinking in June 2001, met two guys at a bar, and then disappeared. The police finally solved the case when, about two years after the disappearance, someone living nearby contacted the authorities and said she'd found a rug matching the description of a rug missing from the victim's house. The police were able to trace fibers from the rug to the murder suspect.

Everyone out here talks so contentedly about how we live in our little idyllic utopian blue-state liberal/progressive/left-wing bubble -- so it comes as that much more of a shock to learn that a pro-choice doctor who works for Planned Parenthood in Contra Costa county has been targeted by Operation Rescue.
