LIVE MUSIC: Parenthetically named '80s pop outfit Was (Not Was) is known for the song, "Walk the Dinosaur" And that ditty? Went a little something like this: "Open the door, get on the floor/Everybody walk the dinosaur/Boom boom acka-lacka lacka boom." Bring your favorite Gen-Xer to hear them live at Cafe Du Nord. *FILM: Just in time to make you feel less bad about being single on Valentine's Day is Woody Allen's Annie Hall.......

You guys are THE BEST. Thanks for all the great pictures of today's Ed Jew rally outside City Hall! We can't find any coverage of it online yet, but your reports to us say that it was a media circus, and moderately-well-attended by pro Ed Jew folks. Joe O'Donoghue seems to have gotten over his whole "pregnancy brain" thing with Amy Lee enough to give a stemwinder of a speech, accusing various other elected......

Wow-- this is pretty shocking: Pulitzer Prize winning author David Halberstam was killed today in a three-car accident in Menlo Park. The accident occurred at westbound Bayfront Expressway and Willow Road near the Dumbarton Bridge and according to authorities, he was one of the passengers. ...

Stephanie V.W. Lucianovic is a culinary school graduate that writes about food and television. What's not to love? She's best known for her scathing, funny, and exhaustive coverage of several shows over at Television Without Pity, where she uses the nom du plum of Keckler--we'll be the first to admit (as we have before): her coverage of Top Chef is second to none. She's also a regular at where we first met her), and has her very own food-centric bloggie, The Grub Report. Check out our recent discussion for details on an a cup of salsa's epic journey, a bit on being a cheese archivist, the ressurection of our favorite word from Top Chef Season Two ("craveable"), and some insight into the challenges in writing loads and loads about television at the very popular TWOP. ...

Okay, we finally got out of the house and picked up a hard copy of the Bay Guardian. And yes -- we're in it! Your SFist editors are right behind the guy making what looks like a less-than sign with his right hand, and right in front of what looks like a giant inflatable beer, on page 53. As an extra bonus We Read The Weeklies feature this week, we present: The Best of the......

Even though she once made fun of our blog's name (and who hasn't) we've always loved that lovable scamp, Peaches Christ. So we're pleased as punch to hear that the queen's finally hitting the big time with a performance tonight (one night only!) with the Upright Citizens Brigade in NYC. Yay Peaches! She'd been traipsing around the city with her repulsive entourage, hosting screenings of Showgirls (complete with volcano-themed drag dance numbers before the......

Oh, how we adore the Primitive Screwheads. Our first experience with them was at the final (sob) performance of their most glorious Evil Dead: Live, in which the guerilla (to wit: they rehearse in whatever unoccupied classrooms they can find at a local college, their props all seem to come from Mythbusters:The Home Version, and we're not really clear on their adherence to copyright law) theatre company brilliantly deconstructed the classic Sam Raimi trilogy......

Last week's winner, the SF Weekly: The Best Of ish! We nearly threw our back out getting it out of the box! So here we are, flip flip flip, feeling smug that we already know a bunch of the best of picks ("Best Nepalese food: Pssssh, of course it's going to be Little Nepal! We are too old school for this town!"), and -- holy crap! They gave us best local blog! Yipes, nowhere left for us to go but down. Full gloating will commence in separate posts -- but we would also be remiss in our solipsism if we neglected to mention the mention of this very column, so thank you very much, SF Weekly! (You know we only kid because we love.) In other news, readers vote Chris Daly worst local politician, and Golden Gate Bridge best local landmark. And hey, we get to send SFists Jackson and Eve to the big awards ceremony now too, right? Fun!
Okay, it's not really all about us -- so we're moving on, to the East Bay Express: A kerrayyyy-zee letter from a person who wrote a book about cooking for a dog with food allergies. Why isn't the Oakland City Council race interesting? Cover article: a totally, totally fascinating article from a juror on the first Gwen Araujo trial about why they hung. Hilarious I Like Eating comic about the challenge that is Todai. And a dry-as-a-gimlet (are gimlets dry?) review of the Coldplay show.
SFist Jackson's mainstream media debut and the pick of the week after the jump!...

First off, don't let the name of the program fool you. Dick Clark will NOT be hosting Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve this Friday. That privilege is going to Regis Philbin, and we think you already know how we feel about Regis. So skip it. Or go outside. Or go to sleep before midnight even strikes. Because New Year's Eve? Blows. In other news, this week TV offers up the inevitable "Year in......

We realize you've probably got more important things to do this week than watch TV. Perhaps your shopping isn't quite done. Or maybe you still haven't packed for that trip home, much less braced yourself for the glut of family encounters ahead. So we'll keep this week's guide short, sweet, and for those who actually stay in the City over the holidays. (Not that we're complaining. The fact that no one really seems to......

'Tis the season, already, for record companies to inundate the shelves of Target and Wal-mart with gift-worthy releases of greatest hits, Christmas collections, and repackaged favorites. You already know about the huge releases by Destiny's Child and Eminem, and we're betting that critics' darling Rufus Wainwright will be covered extensively elsewhere. Here are some of the releases that intrigued and amused us for the week of November 16th. In the "Best Of"s category, we recommend......
