Mirkadreamy drives a 1970 VW. Ross called the cops, who seemed kind of indifferent about it, and now the Conquistador's upset. You know, it's this kind of thing that makes a man want to fight crime.

A few photos of today's rally before the anti-war march.

The old political shibboleth about releasing unpopular news on the afternoon of "take out the trash" Friday holds true again, as Gavin Newsom sneaks in a veto on Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi's well-received proposal requiring police foot patrols of San Francisco neighborhoods, after originally saying he would let it pass.

More art tonight!

Hooray! The Board of Supervisors has agreed to allow beer and wine to be served at the Red Vic movie theatre. While a moratorium had been called on new liquor licenses in the Upper Haight, the newly-approved bill is intended to override that in the case of the worker owned and operated single-screen movie theater.

After months of debate, San Francisco finally can legally go to pot (only with doctor’s approval, of course)-- we have our first ever codified marijuana dispensaries laws. Yay!!! Yesterday, the Board of Supes unamiously voted to agree to the latest version of the legislation which had been revised by Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi in order to address the latest round of concerns. Included in the new rules are limiting the amount of pot each person can purchase to only one ounce and made it so they can't be near schools. While not putting a limit on the amount of dispensaries that can run in the city, Ross made it so anyone who wants to open one up will have to go through the cities Planning Department first, which is kind of like the same thing. To appease opponents of his legislation, Mirkarimi added a grandfather clause that will allow several dispensaries that are open to stay open and every dispensary won't have to keep up with the usual amount of bureaucratic paper work the city usually requires.

So, yesterday the a Board of Supervisors committee approved a proposed ordinance Monday that would require seafood restaurants to post English, Spanish, and Chinese signs warning of the dangers of mercury contaminated fish.

It's no Smash The State, but friend of SFist Windy Chien (isn't that the best name ever?) tipped us off that our boy Matty G (and before you ask, we DO have a woody for Matt, big time) has been joined in his art-loving ways by Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi.

SFist ascended the steps to the gilded seat of city government for the first time today, as we desperately wanted to overpay for a tiny sandwich and miniature Pepsi at the City Hall Cafe. Kidding. We wanted to speak up at a public Government Audit and Oversight Committee meeting, where committee member and Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi would be asking questions of the SFPD press department and asking the public for their thoughts on the issue.

We must have missed this in the midst of all the Apprentice hoopla, but last week the San Francisco Board of Supervisors did what they do best- passed a sweeping, half-baked but well-intentioned measure to put on the ballot. The legislation this time? Handgun ban. And we’re not just talking about the sale of handguns, but the owning of handguns. In something right of the fevered dreams of the NRA, the legislation calls for the confiscation of all handguns owned by residents (but not non-residents) within 90 days of the measures' passage. Like this is going to go over quietly.
