Much to our surprise, the motion that almost allowed our fair Mayor Gavin Newsom to eschew his monthly cameos Board of Supervisor meeting was tabled. That is to say, it was killed. Dead. According to Sweet Melissa recounts today's nail-biting Board of Supes meeting thusly: Supervisor Daly spoke twice against the motion, at one point reading off a list of donors to the Let's Really Work Together coalition which opposed Prop E. Supervisor Mirkarimi......

The "!" is because we've been out of town and we're so, so excited to be back. So, it looks like folks are settling nicely into the new comments system. While we appreciate those of you making "guest" comments as well, we especially appreciate those of you that are taking the time to register. The Top 5 for last week were:...

Hey, everyone -- here are the semi-arbitrary Top 5 Comments of the Week. For this, our fourth week of doing it, we thought it'd be a swell idea to try it out in easy-to-access text form. See below for commenters whom SFist's editors thought raised the game, made us laugh, or were otherwise notable, and click through to read the actual comments as written....

As we promised earlier this morning, in response to SFist MattyMatt's brilliant suggestion -- it's Ask Chris A Question! Do you have a burning question you'd like to ask Chris Daly? Post it in the comments! We can't promise you that he'll answer it or anything, but hey -- you never know, he might. Our first two questions are from commenter El Greco, and he wants to know: Why [are] 19 of the 34 pot......

Yeah, San Francisco's nice, we guess. But you know what it REALLY needs? Parking garages. Yeah, get rid of that stupid Yerba Buena garden, and that useless Golden Gate Park, and that awful, smelly Mission. We're sick of coffee shops, park benches, covenience stores, murals, and jerks like Supervisor Daly (who's sponsoring legislation that would prevent construction of free-standing parking garages in SF, and limit apartment-building parking spots) who are blind to the unadorned......

Beef -- it's what's for dinner! Here's the a href="http://www.sanfranciscosentinel.com/id32.htm">full contents of a letter from Chris Daly to the Sentinel, in response to Pat Murphy and Luke Thomas's editorial about the CitySafe program:
Luke, how much money are you making to be a bitch?Daly was presumably upset either by Murphy and Thomas's opining that it was inappropriate for him to say that certain police officers in the SFPD should be prosecuted for murder (scroll down) -- or maybe by the picture (scroll down further) that Thomas took of him at the meeting. The Sentinel's response?
EDITOR'S NOTE: Supervisor Daly, we have chosen to publish this because you have emailed such an ugly and unprofessional aspersion, that we believe your constituents need to see it.The folks over at sfwall.net are abuzz (though not as abuzz as they've been about Supervisor Ackerman). Was it a failed joke by Daly? An uncalled-for attack? A relapse? Meanwhile, please pass the A1 steak sauce, please! ... Continue Reading "Political Junkie: I'm Chris Daly, Bitch!"

In a special Political Junkie/Housing Bubbles double posting, San Francisco politics and our real estate crunch meet at their usual flash point of tenants' rights groups. With a special appearance by Angry Supervisor Daly! The Land Use Committee of the Board of Supervisors met yesterday, to discuss whether the city should put caps on the number of owner-occupied two-unit buildings that can be converted from tenancies in common to condos. Chris Daly says no, claiming......
