A computer lab at San Francisco City College was recently shut down after it was discovered that one of its computers contained a virus that had been transmitting user data to Russia and China for the past ten years. Authorities aren't quite sure yet what information was stolen, but they suspect it was primarily personal information and credit card numbers from students and staff. The virus logged students' keystrokes, recorded images of the screens and might have spread to other labs and home computers via flash drives.

Now the school's English Department has also called for the booting of Katehi.

Second Rape Reported In Two Weeks at St. Mary's College
Police in Moraga are investigating another student rape on the St. Mary's College campus, a place known for its peaceful and pastoral settings. This is the second time in two weeks a student was allegedly sexually assaulted by another student. "Officers were called to the campus about 6 p.m. Sunday after college security received a call from the victim, who was on her way to the hospital," reports the CoCo Times. "She told police over the phone that she had been raped by two males -- one a student and one an acquaintance of that student -- at a campus dorm."

Academy Award winning actor and quasi-Bay Area resident Sean Penn helped get Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer released by visiting Hugo Chavez. Penn reportedly visited Venezuela months ago to talk about the UC Berkeley hiker's imprisonment with President Chavez, a pal of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
SF Students Barred for Not Having Whooping Cough Vaccinations
Sorry, Jenny McCarthy, but San Francisco likes their students vaccinated. On Thursday, an estimated 2,000 city students "who still lacked proof of a whooping cough vaccination one month into the school year" were banned from classroom until they got the shot. According to the Chronicle, a new law asks that all kids in grades seven through 12 in both public and private schools be vaccinated this year, "but districts struggling to get families to comply asked for and received a 30-day extension."

The Top Party Schools of 2011 Are...
Ohio University topped this year's list of America's Top Party Schools by Princeton Review. The Athens-based institution of higher learning landed on the the party school list 12 times since 1997. This is the first time it's reached the top. (So... kudos?) While no Bay Area schools made the esteemed list (nerds!), one California college did manage to crack the top 20. Can you guess what it is? UCB Wheeler Hall Protesters Receive Misdemeanor Charges
After 17 protesters were arrested last week during UC Berkeley's Wheeler Hall occupation, 14 were smacked with misdemeanor charges on Monday. "Eleven protesters were charged on a single count of trespassing by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, reports Daily Cal. "Three were charged on both trespassing and obstructing a peace officer, after allegedly having to be carried out of Wheeler Hall by the police in order to be arrested." Protesters' demands ranged from halting budget cuts to the democratization the UC Board of Regents. [Daily Cal]
UC Students Removed from Egypt
After political unrest hit Egypt eight days ago (which has since turned violent), 19 UC students "and at least 13 other adults" have been evacuated. According to the UC Office of the President, "UC affiliates will remain in Barcelona until later this week when they are expected to return to California." Berkeley Student Faces Suspension for Fee-Hike Protests
Laura Zelko, A UC Berkeley student who took part in protesting fee-hikes and campus layoffs last November is now facing a possible one-year suspension in a public disciplinary hearing which took place on October 27th. You'll remember 43 protesters barricaded themselves inside Wheeler hall last year, which became the focal point of campus-wide protests.
Shooting Kills Berkeley High School Student
A sad tale here, folks: Berkeley student Larry Malik Grayson, a 14-year-old Berkeley High School student who was shot in the head on last week, died on Thursday. He was shot by his classmate, a 17-year-old boy. Berkeleyside reports:
No End to Cal Hunger Strike
In lieu of getting ready for graduation, some UC Berkeley students are starving themselves in an effort to get Chancellor Robert Birgeneau to "publicly denounce a recent Arizona immigration law," reports The Daily Californian. (Unlike your SFist Editor, who, weeks prior his UCSC graduation, had three reservations as Oswald's and two now-legendary graduation parties scheduled. Which: exhausting.) Horacio Corona and Alejandro Lara-Briseno, for example, "are enduring the hunger pangs of going without food for more than 168 hours."
SFSU Student vs. Police Officer
Protesting SF State University's plan to "charge 11 students $8,100 for damages incurred during a December occupation of the business school," SFSU students held a peaceful protest on Wednesday that go slightly out of hand. Looking to enter the school's Administration Building--where student have the right to be, legally--one officer took things a wee bit too far, throwing a student to the ground and wresting him outside of the building. It's pretty rough considering the protest was pretty mellow.

Detained Hikers In Iran Have Bay Area Ties
Three hikers (Shane Bauer, Sarah Shourd and Joshua Fattal) were captured by Iranian authorities last week, "after they strayed across the border while hiking in Northern Iraq in a tourist area." Two of the three hikers placed under arrested in Iran have Bay Area connections. Bauer and Shourd are both UC Berkeley graduates who worked as freelance journos with New American Media. According to Bauer's website, he is a freelance journalist and photographer based in the Middle East." Bauer was "born in Minnesota and graduated with honors from UC Berkeley with a degree in Peace and Conflict Studies." Shourd was an English major and describes herself as a "teacher-activist-writer." Former First Lady and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is now on the case. According to Associated Press, "Clinton said that Swiss diplomats who represent U.S. interests in Iran are asking officials from the Iranian Foreign Ministry for details but have not yet gotten official confirmation of the trio's arrest. She asked that Iran determine the facts of the case and to 'return them as quickly as possible.'"
Shooting at San Francisco High School
One person was shot and another wounded at the International Studies Academy High School today, located at 18th and Potrero. According to Chron, the shooting "happened at 1:20 p.m. just as summer school was letting out for the day," going on to report, that "the victim was not a student and was not badly hurt. Police have more than one suspect in custody." The school was then placed on lock down. Kids these days.
Mother of Cal's 'Naked Guy' Gets $1M in Wrongful Death Lawsuit
The man who gained national fame in the early 90s for attending classes at U.C. Berkeley wearing nothing but a G-string, Luis Andrew Martinez a.k.a. The Naked Guy, met his end in a Santa Clara County jail cell where he cinched a plastic bag around his neck and died of suffocation in May 2006. It turns out he was schizophrenic, and after proving "people define normalcy in their own terms" and ultimately getting expelled from Cal, he was in and out of jails and mental institutions where he did not always receive appropriate care. His mother, Esther Krenn, brought a wrongful death lawsuit against the county and yesterday won a $1M settlement on the grounds of "reckless disregard or deliberate indifference" to her son's condition.
Thousands Line Up to Score Dalai Lama Tickets
Thousands of students lined up in Berkeley on Wednesday to get tickets to see professional celebrity and sometime activist, the Dalai Lama, scheduled to appear April 25 at the Greek Theater. According to Daily Clog's Alex Bigman, "we haven’t seen lines like this since Star Wars: Episode I came out." He goes on to say the Lama's appearance is the "coolest thing to take place at the Greek since that Steely Dan show." Tickets for the general public go on sale on March 23.<
Students Stabbed
After getting into a heated argument on a MUNI bus, two 19-year-old college students were stabbed after exiting the bus. The two boys, according to reports, were injured at Sixth Avenue and Geary Boulevard in the Richmond. The incident happened a little after 1 p.m., presumably after riding the 38-Geary. Both guys are at SF General Hospital being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests, as you've already guessed, have been made.
Hundreds of Alameda Students Walk Out in Protest
Students at Encinal High School walked out of their classrooms today in response to proposed budget cuts. Last night the school board held a tense meeting that went well into the wee hours of the morning, voting to increase class sizes by cutting advanced placement classes, most high school sports, music in the elementary schools, and counselors in the middle schools, reports NBC 11. Students walked out today, marching straight over to the school district's headquarters. They carried signs reading "No Us No Future," "No Sports No School" and "You're Tearing Down Our Future."
