Sure, it was taken awhile back, just after Barack Obama was kicking it with the dames at the Girlie Building. But since his momentum is (thankfully) building, we thought we'd throw up another image of the candidate. That, and to wash the taste of yesterday's tubgirl cake out of our mouth. (Ebb and flow, folks. Ebb and flow.) Image credit: Steve Rhodes......

(Check out the actual chin scratching occurring, lower right, at an intelligentsia event. Har!) Here we have novelist Dave Eggers at the National Book Critics Circle nominee announcement at City Lights. We're in love with his bulky v-neck sweater. Very nice. SFist saw Christmas Day turn tragic after a Siberian tiger escaped from her pen at the San Francisco Zoo, killing a visitor and mauling two others. Phillyist counted down the top ten items on Philadelphia's New Year's wish list. Gothamist looked at the wooden bikes being offered for NYC's first bike share program on Governors Island. LAist received a Christmas present in the form of a drunk Santa Claus in a g-string. Bostonist launched......

We found this photo of a goat, which was taken outside 111 Minna during a LiveJournal party of some sort. (Probably because of their recent sale to a Russian company.) Anyway, why was there a goat there? Was it sacrificed? Petted? Kept warm? Another image of the goat can be found here. Image credit: Steve Rhodes......

The typically chatty Gavin Newsom spoke for less than 15 minutes last night, declaring a mayoral victory at last night's party at the Ferry Building. He stood alongside his father and gal-pal Jennifer Siebel (who presumably had to be talked out performing a stirring act-II-opening rendition of "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina," which, really, would have been rad.) According to the Chronicle he said, "To my critics, this is an opportunity, and in some......

Before last night's much more important Zombie Attack, there was some sort of mayoral debate at some bookish building. A debate consisting of Mayor Gavin Newsom, possible contender Quintin Mecke, and slew of other candidates who, more or less, sold their remaining integrity and ethics for a shot at "local personality" status. Well, congrats: you're all winners, then. And seeing how there was a particularly good Inside Edition on last night, and 30 Rock......

WE LOVE IT WHEN ROSS MIRKARIMI SAVES THE DAY!!!!!! Remember when he stopped a robbery? And then when he saved the life of a guy in Buena Vista Park? And today, he caught two people involved in a drive-by shooting!!! (Thanks to commenter Rah for calling our attention to the story!) Ross Mirkarimi, the supervisor for the Western Addition/Lower Haight's District 5, was out for a jog this morning around 9:45 a.m. (guess Ross doesn't......

It's the latest in the Tsk Tsk Supervisorial codes of conduct battle front! You've got sex, you've got drugs, all you need now is some rock and roll: Supervisor Chris Daly went and introduced the code of conduct regulations he's been waving around ever since his fellow supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier said she was going to put in some rules about (his) offensive language. Daly's code would prohibit sexual relationships between managers and subordinates at City......

Well, at least he lives in the Richmond, right? (Some) affordable housing advocates and ethicists are shaking their heads over District 1 Supervisor Jake McGoldrick's poor party timing this week. Remember that lot on Cesar Chavez and Mission that everyone's fighting about condoizing? Well, the Board of Supes had a contentious debate about it on Tuesday, and narrowly voted for development on a 6-5 vote. (hey, Michela Alioto-Pier must've shown up that day!) The swing......

To honor Barry Lamar as he approaches the exalted numbers 725 and 726, Gavin announced yesterday that City Hall will be lit up in Orange until he breaks the record. There will also be a pennant hung in front of City Hall to count off each and every home run he hits on his way to 726. Quoth the Gavster: "I think I speak for all San Franciscans when I say,''Go Barry.'" ...

It's the Fourth of July! Streamers! Bunting! Brass bands! And in San Francisco.... the opening of the hotly-anticipated SF Mime Troupe production in Dolores Park! The acidly-political theater group (note: not actually mimes, though it would actually be hilarious if one year they did do an entire production in mime) is putting on free performances of "Making a Killing" every weekend at local parks throughout the area until October. This year's play is about......

We're hearing word about today's Board of Supes meeting! So apparently Michela Alioto-Pier, without naming Chris Daly specifically, was going on and on about the need for civility at the Board of Supes, and introduced her code of conduct for members, like she's been saying she would. Then Chris Daly gets up, and proposes his own code of conduct -- namely, one that 1) prevents fraternization between any city official and a person directly under......

This is all Ed Jew's fault. We were so distracted by updating you on the latest in his woes that we totally missed the news that we just got from a favorite reader that previous SFist obsession District 6 Supe Chris Daly threw one of his famous fits at the Board of Supes meeting today! Guess Lumpy's not doing it after all -- Pat Murphy, the guy who came up with the catch phrase "Do It, Lumpy" to goad local progressive ringleader and District 6 Supervisor Chris Daly into running for mayor in the first place, has posted a press release from Camp Daly. Contrary to Chris's prior bold statements that he'd jump in the race if no one else did, Daly now says: Family is the most important......

The SF Int'l Film Festival isn't just about great national and international movies -- they've got music events, gala events, talks about the state of cinema, an online presence through SF360.com, and -- what we stopped by to see this afternoon -- a series of panels about the state of cinema today. Today's panel was about the state of the film scene in San Francisco, and included basically every single movie-related constituency group in......

As the political season starts to heat up, there's so many bloggers monitoring politicians' activities that we're thinking we need to start a new column, the _____Watch. There's so many people needing to be assessed these days! So we start off with local progressive Internet guerrillas GavinWatch. Welcome back! Screw getting Dooced, Josh Wolf has set the blogger bar a bit higher than getting fired. He's been jailed. Judge William Alsup, presiding over a federal grand jury case investigating the attempted burning of a police car and assault of an officer during an anti-war protest last year, has held Mr. Wolf in contempt of court, and ordered him imprisoned. It's the reemergence of our "Tell SFist About Your SF Political Sighting" column! We love a good Chris Daly sighting story! A reader writes in to tell us that Chris Daly is at this very moment hanging out outside the 16th Street BART stop, collecting the requisite signatures for his supervisor reelection campaign. We can't take any more of this Bay Area independent bookstore stress -- first the Kepler's drama and now this? Venerated SF independent bookstore stalwart A Clean Well-Lighted Place For Books is on the market. Rarely a day late, always a few dollars short. Michael Strickland gets the headline of the day, with "Satanic Love Cult at City Hall." Leila at Hypnagogica spends Valentine's Day beating people with pillows and thinking about love. Scott Beale was there taking photos. Jane Kim spends it worried about Eddy Zheng's deportation hearing. Lots and lots going on in urban development. A major landlord in Japantown wants to sell. Even more troubling are......
