Seeing Stars at the All-Star Game

Seeing Stars at the All-Star Game

We watched last night's All-Star Game -- well, most of it -- and have to say we enjoyed it much more than we thought we would. It was all you could hope for in a big game, mainly that it was a tight, exciting game and had a few big and totally out-of-nowhere plays that make baseball such a fun sport. We mean, an inside the park home run? Go, go, Ichiro. And one of the best parts of the game was reconfirming why we have an intense dislike of Tony LaRussa. Leaving Pujols on the bench? LaRussa would pull double switches and go for pitching matchups in Tee Ball. more ›

SFPD Arrest Five For...?

SFPD Arrest Five For...?

(7pm-ish, 7/10, McAllister and Divisadero) An anonymous tipster sent in the above image, which is curious since the entirety of the SFPD was required to stake out a three block radius from last night’s All-Star Game, searching for elusive Alyssa Milano boob. No, not really, but we’re dying to know more. (Excuse the pun.) This shot shows at least five people in the process of being arrested, and was reportedly captured one hour after... more ›

It's All-Star Time

It's All-Star Time

We have to admit to becoming positively stoked about all the All Star Festivities these days, especially as tonight is the big Home Run Derby. Local sports talk radio is all over it, ESPN is here, Fox has been promoting the hell out of it, and Jay Z is even throwing a party for it (and hey, Hovah, if you happen to be reading this and want to help hype it by having an on the spot reporter, just drop us a line). And we're not the only ones excited-- reports say that the All Star Game is bringing the city big bucks. more ›

It's All Star Weekend

It's All Star Weekend

We have to admit that we're not terribly excited about the All Star Game next Tuesday. None of the players who play really care despite the "This Time it Matters" hype and usually by the sixth inning, when most of the actual stars are flying back in their rented private jets, you get all the excitement of watching some reliever for the Devil Rays facing off against some guy from the Nationals. The only thing that will make it worth watching is to see the ball park and the city get shown off. Well, that and they're expecting so many boats in the Cove that the Giants will only allow boats that register to be out there. We love when the Cove is filled with boats. more ›

SFist Blotter

Authorities are worried that the violent weekend is a harbinger for a bad July 4th. With 12 people dead (two more people were shot after the articles about 10 people killed went up), and half of those killings in Oakland, the Oakland PD is going to be upping patrols this Wednesday. more ›

Wake Me Up, When The All-Star Game Star Game Ends

Wake Me Up, When The All-Star Game Star Game Ends

Hey, did you hear we're hosting the All-Star game next year? If you watch any of the Giants' games on TV (and who would, all things considering), they only mention it like twenty times a game. Last week they had some big brouhaha with Hizzoner Gavin to unveil the logo and if you go to a Giants game, they have signs everywhere and some clock to let you know that, like, there are only 362 DAYS UNTIL THE ALL-STAR GAME!!!!! more ›

Hey, Navy: Leave Our Kids Alone

Hey, Navy: Leave Our Kids Alone

On Monday, local activists submitted the 15,000 signatures needed to put the measure "College Not Combat" onto the ballots in November. The "groundbreaking" resolution calls for San Francisco schools and colleges to forbid military recruiters from talking to students and possibly convincing them to exercise their freedom of choice by choosing the military. Anti-War activists are claiming that part of the reason for the initiative is that in facing low recruitment numbers, the military has resorted to lying and bullying people into joining. Which is a bit on the cheesy side. On the other hand, our college promised us a fulfilling career and high paying jobs and, well, now we write blurbs for SFist during lunch break as the only way to get any creative fulfillment. more ›

Giants Get 2007 All-Star Game

Making official something that's been talked about for months, Major League Baseball today announced that the 2007 All-Star Game will be held at the Stadium Formerly Known as Pac Bell Park. Isn't it nice to have some news about Bay Area baseball that doesn't involve injecting things in people's asses? The Giants last hosted the Midsummer Classic in 1984 and also held one in 1961, a game remembered primarily for pitcher Stu Miller getting blown off the mound by the Candlestick wind. more ›
