In what's being billed as the "West Coast's biggest ever naming-rights deal," the San Francisco 49ers have inked a deal with denim-purveyors Levi Strauss & Co. to have its name adorn the new Santa Clara stadium in 2014.

At 11 a.m. today a press conference will reveal the "major announcement," says the press release. But Mercury News has word that it's all about the new stadium.

Check back here for more details.
San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, <s>Santa Clara</s> San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed, Niners owner Jed York, and Daniel Lurie (sans hardhat) of the Super Bowl bid committee have a look at the new Niners stadium on Wednesday.

With much sadness and much elation, the stadium will be the new home of the 49ers. It is planned for completion in time for the 2014 NFL season.

What Will Happen To Candlestick Park After 49ers Leave?

This is a question we heard several times over the Super Day weekend. The answer? It's going down. After the 49ers move out following the 2013-14 season and into their new $1.2 billion home in white-hot Santa Clara, according to Appeal, "Lennar Urban takes over ownership of the land from San Francisco following the 49ers' last game at the 53-year-old building and plans to take down the stadium within weeks."

So, the place that many sports icons have called home -- e.g., Willie Mays, Joe Montana, Steve Young, Jerry Rice, Willie McCovey, and Barry Bonds, just to name a few -- will get torn down. However, the land itself will, as Appeal goes on to note, "is slated to become retail space and might even house a smaller arena, which could be a potential home for the San Francisco Bulls minor league hockey team."

-As are the Raiders

-And what about Brisbane? Brisbane?

-Barry Zito stunk up the joint again as he and Vinnie Chulk gave up eight runs in the 5th inning, causing the Giants to lose 9-6 to the Mets. At this point Zito, a really nice guy, is like the loser friend in your circle who you keep on rooting for to turn their life around-- not the least of which is because he keeps on borrowing money
