After the third rail near the South Hayward station lost power at around 10 a.m., affecting Hayward, South Hayward, Union City, and Fremont lines, service has been restored and Bart is running swimmingly.

A power outage has affected the Hayward-Fremont Bart line. Hayward, South Hayward, Union City, and Fremont are all feeling the powerlessness, and Bart is "currently working on setting up a bus bridge."
If you're headed to South Hayward or points beyond on the Fremont BART lines, there's delays due to a grass fire near the South Hayward BART station.
Bad news to report -- in two unrelated incidents, two people were found on the BART tracks this afternoon. One is dead, and the other uninjured (but in for a psych evaluation).
TGIF, folks who don't work at home. Boy, it's been an almost comically-bad week for commuting: doesn't the Gitmo Montgomery shutdown seem like it happened ages ago?
Well, we hope SFist Jon is still at work right now, because we don't think he could stand the latest -- 101 South is completely backed up after a woman jumped off the San Antonio overpass at Palo Alto, causing a seven-car pileup. Suicide is never the answer, but it's definitely not the answer when it involves ruining people's weekends too. Two lanes are still closed.
And at least this time it wasn't a bomb threat (those moved over to three San Jose schools today instead) -- BART had to evacuate the South Hayward station and stop service beyond that stop to Fremont when a fire broke out around noon.
And now it's drizzling again. Can we just all agree to be extra, extra careful on the way home? TGIF.
Don't you hate that 2 a.m. feeling when you think, God, if I could only go to South Hayward right about now? Well, for one brief shining weekend, you can! BART's going to be experimenting with 24-hour service next weekend, from the evening of Friday October 14 through Sunday October 16. Yay! (Okay, stop laughing at us, New Yorkers.)
Because the eastbound lanes on the Bay Bridge will be totally closed those nights, BART's stepping up to get you party people home. The two other times BART's been open all night were in the face of the dreaded Y2K bug for the millennium New Year and throughout the entire time the Bay Bridge was closed after the '89 quake. They claim they can't go 24-7 all the time because of "necessary maintenance" on the lines.
Alas, there's no delight without some pain -- we regret to inform that you won't actually be able to get to South Hayward that weekend on the night owl BART -- the trains are making limited stops only, so the closest you'll get to South Hayward is Bay Fair. Check here for the schedule (.pdf).
Metblogs were on it before we were, but thanks to our tipsters who got us back in the know!
